**Job description**:
We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Programme and Portfolio Sponsor in the Rail Infrastructure North Directorate, Department for Transport (DfT). You will be leading on North of England Programme/Portfolio Integration, overseeing some of the largest infrastructure and most complex rail infrastructure projects this country has ever seen and that are at the heart of the government levelling-up agenda.

You will play a key role in the design, implementation and management of new governance, assurance and reporting frameworks and processes at Programme and Portfolio levels. You will have the rare opportunity to input into the design and evolvement of the new Portfolio Integration function and team. You will work closely with senior managers, colleagues within your own team and across the Department, and industry stakeholders.

The role is unique as it looks to blend Portfolio, Programme and Integrations Management methodologies, techniques, systems and tools.

Highly motivated and organised, you will be able to monitor progress and project delivery milestones, ensuring that deadlines are met.

**_ Your key duties and responsibilities will include:_**
- ** Leadership**: act as the champion for the project. Provide leadership to the project. Offer appropriate support, guidance and coaching to the project community. Seek the same support from the project community. Show commitment to personal development and the development of others. Promote effective individual and team performance. Ensure consideration and support for your wellbeing and that of the individuals throughout the team
- ** Clienting and Sponsorship**: set the client’s (the Department’s) requirements for the portfolio integration and update them as appropriate through the project lifecycle. Help and support the delivery organisation (e.g. Network Rail) to succeed in delivering the programme, challenging constructively where necessary.
- ** Stakeholder Management**: Ensure effective communication with key project stakeholders and the SRO. Be aware of the broader business and programme related interdependencies and ensure effective management of these interfaces. Build and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders in the Department, other Government Departments, Network Rail, and other stakeholders. This includes attending key industry meetings to represent the Department.
- ** Risks & Issues**:Identify, monitor and manage strategic portfolio and integration risks and issues. Develop mitigating actions and escalate as appropriate.

**Additional Information**:
You will have the option to be based in our London office attracting the London salary, or in Leeds or Birmingham attracting the National salary. If based in Leeds or Birmingham, occasional travel to our London office will be required for key meetings and team events.

A minimum of 40% of your working time should be spent at your principal workplace, although requirements to attend other locations for official business, or carry out detached duty in another DfT workplace, will also count towards this level of attendance.
