Holt, United Kingdom National Trust Full time

Working on the stunning North Norfolk Coast, come rain or shine, your love of wildlife and the outdoors will inspire others as you strive to ensure that important species are protected, landscapes are beautifully presented and that our visitors feel a connection and custodianship with the places in our care.

Accommodation is provided to the postholder for the proper or better performance of their duties in accordance with Trust criteria and HMRC rules.

In this role, you’ll work some weekends, bank holiday and evenings and be on-call at times.

**What it's like to work here:This vacancy is included in a trial of the ‘Disability Confident’ scheme (level 1).**

Waking up in the Old Lifeboat House to the sounds of seals, sea birds, weather and waves is pretty magical.

This role acts as a Key Representative, for which accommodation is provided in the iconic blue Lifeboat House on Blakeney Point from April to the end of October. Along with two seasonal Rangers you'll be the eyes, ears and feet on the ground doing all you can to protect and monitor breeding terns and ensuring the success of other breeding shore birds. In the winter months you find your own alternative accommodation on the mainland and work alongside other Ranger colleagues to monitor & manage the breeding grey seal colony alongside office work that supports the summer season.

What you'll be doing:Your role during the summer months will be varied, preparation for the arrival of the terns involves the hard work of erecting electric fencing and signage, predator control and installation of miles of pin and rope to ensure visitor routes are managed around nesting birds. Once the birds have arrived the focus changes to survey and monitoring and, most importantly, positive liaison with visitors and volunteers. The Point team has access to a boat and a 4x4 vehicle as access is limited by tides and the long shingle spit - things to take into consideration when organising days off and trips to the supermarket

During the winter months the Point becomes unrecognisable as it plays host to the UK's largest breeding grey seal colony making visitor safety and reducing disturbance paramount and the Point Ranger often juggles requests from the media with pup counts and office work.

It is safe to say that no two days on Blakeney Point are the same, with changing tides, changing weather and a changing cast of seasonal wildlife it is truly a dynamic environment and certainly never dull.
