**About the Role**:
Colchester Medical Practice has a fantastic opportunity for a GP assistant (GPA) to join our team on a full-time basis. This is a wide-ranging role supporting GPs in delivering care to their patients by providing a mix of clinical and administrative support, thus freeing up GP time to focus on their patients.

Depending on your skills and qualities we will provide support and training to mould you into the aspects of the role that best suit you. The main duties of this role will include:

- Sorting all clinical post and prioritise for the GP/clinical team in terms of actions. Signposting some post to others such as clinical pharmacist, etc.;
- Extracting all information, that needs coding, from clinical letters and adding to notes, according to agreed protocols;
- Reviewing laboratory results and actionning according to agreed protocols;
- Arranging appointments, referrals, tests and follow-up appointments of patients;
- Dipping urine, taking blood pressure, ECGs & phlebotomy;
- Proactively contacting patients to arrange appointments or follow-up;
- Complete basic (non-opinion) forms and core elements of some forms for the GP to approve and sign, such as insurance forms, mortgage, benefits agency forms, etc.;
- Helping the GP and clinical team to liaise with outside agencies e.g. getting an on-call doctor on the phone to ask advice or arrange admission, while the GP can continue with their consultation(s);
- Carrying out the administration elements of clinical audits, working alongside the lead GP to ensure completion and dissemination of results;
- Supporting the practice team to ensure clinical compliance and governance;
- Attending, and contributing to, various internal and external meetings, as requested;
- Ensuring good working relationships with all clinical and non-clinical staff to ensure the smooth running of the service, reporting any problems encountered to the relevant person.

- Experience of reception and / or customer care work
- A good degree of computer literacy (able to use Word, Excel and internet browsers)
- The ability to maintain strict confidentiality in regard to patient medical records
- strong organisational skills;
- IT skills, including experience of working with a clinical system;
- Excellent communication skills and a friendly manner;
- Ability to understand the need to maintain confidentiality and data security, at all times;
- Ability to multi-task and to work accurately under pressure;
- Ability to work in a team as well as being comfortable working independently.
