**Job description**:
As the Maritime Surveillance Specialist, you will be part of the Maritime Surveillance team within the Technical Services: Navigation branch, responsible for implementing Maritime Surveillance policy, and contributing to the wider aims of the branch and the Agency's operational activities.

If successful, it will be your responsibility to support the Branch Business Manager by managing the day-to-day operation of the Consolidated European Reporting System (CERS) and maintaining and improving the quality of data input to meet the legislative requirements.

As part of your daily role, you will be managing quality reports, analysing errors and investigating to identify, correct and either reduce or prevent issues from reoccurring in the future. Stakeholder engagement is a large element of the role whereby you will be liaising with them to ensure they have the correct understanding of processes.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a passionate and professional individual to join our team at the MCA. This is a varied role, whereby you will have the autonomy to explore different ways of working as well as influence policy and work with various different stakeholders.

This role will be based in the Southampton HQ. MCA supports flexible working and operates a hybrid working model between home and office for this role, giving you greater flexibility over where and when you work. Details of the arrangement will be discussed further with your line manager.

**Your responsibilities include but are not limited to**:

- Lead, develop and maintain working relationships with external stakeholders to facilitate the smooth flow of data through CERS to SSN/THETIS and contribute to maintaining levels of data quality.
- Provide operational support for the CERS system, dealing with customer queries, manging the error message queue, and actively following up data quality issues found in the monthly reports.
- Develop and maintain systems for the improvement of UK data quality in line with targets and expectations.
- Support the Branch Business Manager on the UK implementation of legislation associated with Vessel Traffic Monitoring.

**About you**:
To be successful in this role you will need to be familiar with general maritime operations and shipping or have a willingness to learn.

You will need to have a good working knowledge of the CERS system or a level of ICT literacy and willingness to learn about a bespoke system that is used on a daily basis.

A strength of yours will be your ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing to allow the development of good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

You will be Comfortable looking through legislation and regulations as you will have experience of working with legislation/experience of legislative processes.
