**What you’ll be doing**

As an** Utilities Protection Supervisor** you’ll be working alongside our Construction team helping to deliver the biggest civils infrastructure project in the UK.

Embedded in the Sub-Lot Utilities Protection Team, the main purpose of the role is to ensure that all activities on site by any BBV Team and related supply chain working around and near services are compliant with all the BBV & HS2 policies, standards & measures established and agreed with the Statutory Undertakers and none are damaged or compromised, keeping the workforce safe and avoid any loss of services to the public. It also includes deployment, control & supervision on site related to the implementation & maintenance of any measures to establish effective protection of services, prevention of unauthorised access to exclusion zones, any activities related to site investigation related to the Utilities scope of works (diversions, protections, removals and assures) and a close collaboration across internal stakeholders and Statutory Undertakers.

Some of the duties you will have include:

- Ensure that the BBV Avoidance of Underground & Overhead Services procedure is followed across site.
- Collaborate in ensuring that measures included in the HS2’s documents “Requirements for Working around Major Utilities”, “Achieving Best Practice in Service Avoidance” & HSG47 are followed across site.
- Ensure GS6s and Exclusion zones are implemented and maintained.
- Carry out regular on site utilities safety inspections, implement recommended courses of action as identified and support any incident investigations.
- Coordinate & collaborate with the Utilities Protection Manager and remaining Utilities Protection Team in ensuring that all protection measures are adhere to, there is a good understanding of those across all internal stakeholders, including AoD process and plant protection, and any new or changed policies are implemented.
- Coordinate all aspects of any site investigation required for Utilities designs & delivery including trial holes and ensure necessary resources (plant, labour & materials) are available and secured.
- As necessary undertake the role of Responsible Person within the BBV Avoidance of Underground & Overhead Services.
- Coordinate & collaborate with the Utilities Protection Manager and remaining Utilities Protection Team in the operation and compliance of the BBV Permit to Dig System. - Support the delivery of diversions, protections, removals and assurances, in coordination with the Utilities PM and Utilities Coordinators and complying with their minimum requirements as instructed by HS2.
- Raise awareness within the Sub Lot Team relating to working in the vicinity of services. - Build and develop the Maintenance Teams to deliver all aspects of the project requirements. identify training requirements, review the performance of the workforce and ensure delivery of briefings.
- Collaborate within the Utilities Protection Team with any activities related to utilities detection & surveys, including route proofing, training, safe excavations and usage of GPR & Cat&Genny.
- Provide, monitor and control labour plant and materials as necessary.
- Ensure high standard of quality on the works to meet the specification requirements ‘first time’ and minimise rework.
- Ensure accurate, legible and up-to-date allocation sheets are recorded and provided at shift close with delivery tickets and plant returns to the relevant teams.
- Ensure all records for example inspections, works permits and briefings are up to date and in place.
- Keep a full and accurate daily site diary, including any changes / variations, subcontractors’ attendance, and records of work-related discussions.

- Basic Computer competence (E-mail, MS word, excel & intranet)
- Understanding of Engineering principles
- Comprehensive understanding and experience of a wide range of construction techniques and best practices, specifically regarding service avoidance.
