Senior Therapy Support Worker

Band 4

We are looking for a motivated and positive Senior Therapy Support Worker to work in our medical/ cardiology service. You will ideally have previous experience as a Therapy assistant, support worker or equivalent in a healthcare setting in the UK.

You will assess patients; identify patients’ problems, potential complications and contraindications and refer back to a registered practitioner when necessary.

The successful applicant will join our supportive team of occupational therapists, physiotherapists and therapy support workers, and work closely with the nursing team on our medical wards.

We are looking for an individual who is keen and flexible in their approach to motivate and support patients to progress their ability and plans. You will need to have excellent communication skills, the ability to work both independently and as part of a close team

The post holder will be required to use the principles of Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy in an integrated and client-centred way, to promote independence and facilitate safe discharge.

The role includes assessing & enabling patients to practice activities of daily living such as washing & dressing and mobility.

You will take a lead role in the supervision, training and appraisal of Band 3 therapy staff

You need to be available to work at Cheltenham General Hospital & Gloucestershire Royal but will work predominantly at Gloucestershire Royal. It is desirable to hold a UK driving license - work vehicles are available.

The role also involves supporting the teams with administration, clerical and housekeeping duties

You will be expected to work core service hours, Monday-Friday and work as part of the weekend working and bank holiday rota. You will be expected to work within any shifts or rotas in operation.

The Therapy service provides Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy to inpatients and outpatients at Gloucestershire Royal and Cheltenham General Hospitals.

We are an integrated service providing patient centred care. Our mission is to ‘enable people to maximise their potential to live well’.

To use the principles of Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy in an integrated and client-centred way, to promote independence and facilitate safe discharge. This will be achieved by implementing delegated treatment plans and facilitating rehabilitation within agreed limitations through exercise, physical modalities and the use of occupation.

To assess and manage delegated patients with mobility and occupational difficulties, reporting back to the registered practitioner as necessary.

To support the teams with administration, clerical and housekeeping duties.
- To embrace the principles of both Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy, bringing them together to work in an integrated and client-centred way
- To provide high quality therapy in a fast paced, changing working environment within the resources available, to ensure the delivery of Trust targets
- To motivate the patient to take part in rehabilitation and to promote independence, when there may be reluctance or communication difficulties
