The VPEE team coordinates UCL’s engagement with a range of audiences, raising the university’s profile and influence, and managing its reputation. It promotes the public value of UCL’s research and partnerships to the future of Britain and globally. It is a service-driven function made up of communications and marketing professionals who deliver sector-leading media relations, public affairs, institutional communications, brand and integrated marketing, student recruitment, and events.

The Media Relations function sits within the Vice-President, External Engagement (VPEE) team, and is responsible for managing UCL’s media reputation including issues and crisis management. The team of high-performing media relations experts develop proactive media handling strategies that set the agenda across the full range of channels, as well as managing a wide-range of often high-profile reactive issues.

**About you**:
To excel in this role you will need significant experience of leading a media relations team in a large or complex organisation with a notable national profile, and first-rate writing skills with an impeccable news sense. You are adaptable and able to work consistently at pace, you have extensive experience of handling national and regional media, excellent knowledge of current affairs, and a good working understanding of the latest developments in Higher Education. You also have excellent knowledge of the latest trends in digital and data and how to leverage these to build an organisation’s media reputation.

You are a strong and inspirational leader, with experience of motivating a diverse team to achieve stretching goals. You have excellent interpersonal and influencing skills and the ability to build up and maintain effective working relationships across the organisation and at all levels, as well as the gravitas and maturity to present and network at a senior level.
