The Role

The Newcastle University Academic Track Fellowship scheme aims to find and develop our research leaders of the future. This year we are looking to appoint a number of targeted Fellows which align closely with our research strengths, complementing our existing teams and bringing fresh perspectives to our challenges.

We are looking for early career researchers with an excellent track record for their career stage and a compelling research proposal. As a NUAcT Fellow, you will have the opportunity to lead your own research programme, build an international reputation, and contribute to multi-disciplinary collaborations across the University and beyond. With the programme’s focus on equality, diversity and inclusion, we are building a diverse cohort of Fellows who will champion others and help us to build a more inclusive research culture across Newcastle University. Our appointments are fully flexible, which means that we can accommodate part-time working as needed.

NUAcT Fellowship on Hydrogen Integration into Whole Energy Systems

Our NUAcT Fellowship on Hydrogen Integration into Whole Energy Systems will build on research momentum, embedding the Fellow into a multi-disciplinary environment which includes our Centre for Energy and the cohort of existing Fellows. Our existing hydrogen expertise covers a broad range of topics including combustion, subsurface storage, transport, production, attitudes, and whole energy systems. There therefore exists a strong community across several Schools, to offer the Fellow a wide range of collaboration opportunities.

Energy Systems research at Newcastle University
The School of Engineering is active in research around the transition to net zero energy systems, with teaching and research in the broad areas of power systems, electrification, renewable energy, digitalization and AI, and energy systems. The School maintains strong connections with industry and has a long and successful track record in completing both industrial and publicly funded research projects; more recently for example it has been successful in bidding as the Co
- ordinator of a Hub on Hydrogen Integration.

The bulk of this research activity is hosted within the Electrical Power Group. We are the UK’s largest academic research group in Electrical Power, and our activities are highly cross-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary. We work closely with industry to deliver research that is innovative and relevant. Our vision is to lead the agenda on power-related electrification in the world such as electrical transport, smart grids, and hybrid energy storage including batteries and others.

The Fellow will also have a unique opportunity to develop their specialist teaching interests via our range of degree programmes and in particular our MSc in Power Systems, and MSc in Renewable Energy Enterprise and Management, which both attract students from all over the world.
This is a fixed term role for a duration of 5 years.
