This post will provide information for future projects on what works for supporting people not to smoke on hospital grounds.

By signposting people to support for quitting smoking you will have the potential to make a real difference to the lives of individuals and their families; in particular this could also make a difference in a patient’s recovery time and to prevent further illness.

You will have the opportunity to interact with a wide range of people on a daily basis around the QMC and City Campus.

Monitoring and recording daily interactions with smokers.

Providing smokers with signposting to local stop smoking provision.

Engaging with people seen smoking onsite using a brief advice intervention method.

Maintaining a presence around the QMC and City sites, particularly at the main entrances.

Maintaining an effective working relationship with security colleagues if faced with verbally aggressive and or abusive visitors / patients.

Handling any patient complaints arising from daily interactions and following the correct reporting procedure.
