**Overview of role**

As Librarian (Content and Research) you will work together with the Librarian (Discovery and Collections) to jointly manage and strategically develop the Museum Library. We are a small team who are passionate about supporting our colleagues and enabling the public to discover our unique collection covering topics ranging across transport, social history, art, design, and architecture.

You will be enthusiastic about delivering an excellent experience both for visitors to the Library and customers seeking information remotely and will use your experience to help shape our service and develop our collection. This is also an opportunity to use your information and research skills to produce clear and accurate information resources and to work with colleagues across LTM to support the creation of publications and other LTM content. You will be an able communicator whose instinct is to collaborate and build relationships with library stakeholders.

This is an exciting time to join us as our newly formed Content directorate evolves. We will be moving from St. James’s Park this autumn and creating a new space for the Library at the Museum Depot at Acton. Our move coincides with LTM’s Acton Access project and we will be exploring the opportunities co-locating with the Museum collection has for public engagement, while continuing to support staff across all LTM sites.

**Key Accountabilities**

Our two librarians have shared accountability for the overall library service and deputise in each other’s absence. Each librarian also has specific areas of focus where they take lead responsibility, as indicated below for the Librarian - Content and Research.
- Manage the day-to-day operation of LTM's Library. Ensure the needs of Museum and external visitors are met through delivery of an accessible, high quality visitor experience in line with current standards and professional practice. Supervise the Library Assistant, volunteers, and other roles as required.
- Lead responsibility for managing our remote enquiry service (for LTM, Transport for London (TfL) staff and the general public) to ensure that users’ information needs are met within agreed deadlines. Oversee the public enquiry service provided by LTM’s Information Desk team, through support, training and advice, to ensure a high standard of research and response to enquiries is maintained.
- Lead responsibility in content development: by undertaking research to support internal projects, programmes and partnership commitments; contributing to editorial support as required to ensure high-quality outputs; and developing the content available to researchers via the Library catalogue through researching and writing authoritative digital information resources.
- Regularly review the Library's collecting policy to maintain the relevancy of the Library collections for researchers, and reflect TfL's remit and LTM's vision and objectives. Ensure the Library collection is developed according to the collecting policy through new acquisitions and disposals. Lead responsibility for identifying potential acquisitions for the Library collection.
- Promote the Library service to internal and external users to raise awareness and engagement. This includes maintaining and developing Library web pages on the LTM website and TfL intranet and delivery of Library inductions and training.
