CLINICAL To assess, plan, treat and refer patients appropriately, either within a face-to-face consultation or a clinical telephone triage To recognise the need for and initiate where appropriate relevant diagnostic investigations. It is expected that the Paramedic will have the skills to interpret diagnostic investigations and the take the correct course of action within their scope of competence To recognise the need for and obtain where appropriate the advice of GPs, other team members and relevant specialities To exhibit excellent communication skills when dealing with patients. To have the ability to make clear decisions with confidence and communicate these effectively to patients To maintain appropriate clinical records, ensuring that documentation clearly demonstrates the relevant Standards and Guidelines for Records and Record keeping within the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) To supply medication under patient group directives or by (supported) prescription as appropriate To practice within the parameters of his/her skills and knowledge, to recognise the limitations of ones own practice and to work within the bounds of ones training and capability according to the Health and Care Professions Council Standards To maintain an awareness of developments in clinical practice To optimise evidence-based practice within clinical remit To work effectively as part of a multi professional team in collaboration with other members of the service A duty to advise GPs of potential problems or errors within the range of assigned tasks Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post To help cover staff holidays and sickness when required To participate in regular staff training sessions to ensure development of skills and knowledge; to assess own learning needs and undertake learning as appropriate CONFIDENTIALITY In the course of seeking treatment, patients entrust us with, or allow us to gather, sensitive information in relation to their health and other matters. They do so in confidence and have the right to expect that staff will respect their privacy and act appropriately In the performance of the duties outlined in this Job Description, the post-holder may have access to confidential information relating to patients and their carers, practice staff and other healthcare workers.

They may also have access to information relating to the practice as a business organisation. All such information from any source is to be regarded as strictly confidential Information relating to patients, carers, colleagues, other healthcare workers or the business of the practice may only be divulged to authorised persons in accordance with the practice policies and procedures relating to confidentiality and the protection of personal and sensitive data HEALTH AND SAFETY - The post-holder will assist in promoting and maintaining their own and others health, safety and security as defined in the practice Health & Safety Policy, to include: Using personal security systems within the workplace according to practice guidelines Identifying the risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks Making effective use of training to update knowledge and skills Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way and free from hazards Reporting potential risks identified EQUALITY AND DIVERSITY - The post-holder will support the equality, diversity and rights of patients, carers and colleagues, to include: Acting in a way that recognises the importance of peoples rights, interpreting them in a way that is consistent with practice procedures and policies, and current legislation Respecting the privacy, dignity, needs and beliefs of patients, carers and colleagues Behaving in a manner which is welcoming to and of the individual, is non-judgmental and respects their circumstances, feelings priorities and rights. TRAINING, PERSONAL/PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT - The post-holder will participate in the HEE FCP Roadmap, and any other training programme implemented by the network, as part of this employment. Training requirements will be monitored by yearly appraisal and will be in accordance with network requirements.
