**Waste Operative**

**Are you looking for a physical role?**

**We are looking for Waste Operatives at Southampton General Hospital.**

The Trust is made up of 6 locations with Southampton General Hospital being the largest, running specialist services, emergency, and critical care along with outpatient clinics, diagnostic and treatment work, surgery, research, education and training. This is a large and busy site.

We have temporary placements available for **Waste Operatives **at Southampton General Hospital (Tremona Road, Southampton, SO16 6YD) starting ASAP.
- **If you’re not already on the bank you will need to be able to provide a reference covering a 6-month period of employment within the last 3 years**_.
- This is a physically demanding role, where you will be involved in moving waste around the Southampton General Hospital site. You will be on your feet, walking for the majority of the 7.5-hour shift. You will have a 30-minute lunch break.
- You will be moving large, wheeled bins and cages across and around the site, collecting waste from different areas of the hospital and bringing them to a central point, ready for collection or disposal from the site.
- The working hours are between 07.00 - 20.00 Monday to Friday and you will book the shifts directly with the waste management leadership team.
- Most common shifts are 07.00 - 15.00, 12.00 - 20.00 and 07.00- 20.00
- The pay rate is £11.45 an hour
- The training for this role is on the job and you have a paid trial shift to ensure the role is right for you.

The duties will include:

- Ensure all waste types are collected from the sluice rooms or waste holding rooms from each level as per the schedule you are assigned to.
- To follow the waste policies ensuring the waste groups should never be mixed.
- To ensure all waste is disposed of in the appropriate containers.
- To follow the departmental security procedures by ensuring clinical waste bin must be kept locked with keys always provided.
- To ensure the department is maintaining a clean, tidy, and safe working environment.
- To maintain good working relationships and communication with general politeness and courtesy with both colleagues and other departments
- To undertake any ad-hoc duties as and when required

They are looking for someone who:

- Ideally has Waste Operative experience however training is provided.
- Has strong communication skills and is a strong team player.
- Has the ability to deal with physical aspects of the role.
- Professional and approachable person.
- Works well in a busy and demanding environment.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Temporary contract, Fixed term contract, Zero hours contract

**Salary**: £11.45 per hour

Expected hours: 37.5 per week
