Heavy Vehicle Maintenance Apprentice

Ace Liftaway Ltd are a waste recycling company based in Romsey, Hampshire. We are currently seeking an apprentice to join our workshop team.

As an apprentice with Ace Liftaway you will initially start with a Level 2 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair and progress on to Level 3. This is a journey which requires dedication and commitment. In return you will receive support and guidance every step of the day.
The maintenance and repair of our HGV trucks is a vital and essential part of transport which carries responsibility. You will gain full understanding of the importance of 6-week checks, Operators (O) licence’s and legal obligations and as a Technician apprentice, you will receive training to the manufacturer and DVSAs standard.
The Heavy Vehicle Technicians jobs fall into three main categories:
- Inspections
- regular preventive checks in accordance with DVSA regulations
- Maintenance - replacing any parts showing signs of wear and tear, oils and filter changes etc
- Repairs - repair or replacing anything damaged or faulty
With the increase in technology involved with vehicles today, you will also receive training in how to use diagnostic equipment to solve faults in Electronic Systems (Engine, Emissions, Transmissions, Brakes, ETC)
Your training won’t be restricted to just the mechanical side but will include the pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical systems.
The types of vehicles you’ll be working on will range from tractor units, tippers, grabs, compaction vehicles, ro-ros and skip trucks.
Working hours are 7:30 - 17.00 (Some flexibility required dependant on workload)

**Desired skills**
Due to modern vehicle technology, we require an individual with good numeracy, literacy, and ICT skills You will need to be comfortable with a wide range of vehicles such as trucks, mobile plant and agricultural machinery. Being a Heavy Vehicle technician requires a reasonable level of physical strength and stamina - A logical approach to problem-solving - An enthusiasm to learn new practical and theoretical skills - Good practical skills

**Desired qualifications**
- No previous automotive qualifications are required, - You must have GCSE 9-4 (A* - C) or Functional Skills Level 2 in English and Maths and we will support you to help develop your knowledge further. - Predicated grades are acceptable
**Future prospects**
As an apprentice, you will be a full-time employee from the very beginning and while training you’ll be earning your place as an integral part of the workshop team. Once you have achieved your qualification, you will have further opportunities to progress.
**Things to consider**
We are based on Yokesford Hill Industrial Estate, Belbins, Romsey and as such are not on a public transport route, therefore, an ability to ensure you can get to us daily. You will also be required to attend college on day/block release basis as required

Privately owned by directors Philip and Melanie Liddell it was set up in 1988 and has grown from one truck and eight mini skips to operating 50 vehicles, thousands of skips of all sizes and employing over 100 staff. We also have our sister company, Ace Loos, which is a portable toilet business.
