An exciting opportunity as arisen within the housing and regeneration department of an inner London borough council which currently has a requirement for a temporary accommodation/Hostel manager.
1. JOB PURPOSE
- To have overall responsibility for the management and development of all forms of temporary accommodation including repairs, voids, landlord liaison, lettings, tenancy management, income and related areas. To ensure health and safety standards are met in allproperties and to ensure officers are trained in all aspects of health and safety.
- To manage the work of all teams managing temporary accommodation including repairs, income, hostels and tenancy management and to ensure the provision of quality services to tenants and the cost effective use of properties for the Council, maximising incomecollection.
- To develop, manage and allocate resettlement and support services for all temporary accommodation households. To work in conjunction with all teams within Housing Options, Finance and related services to ensure coordinated service delivery in the efficientprovision of temporary accommodation to statutorily homeless households.
- To carry out Council policies and initiatives and to meet the divisional business plan and annual plan objectives and targets.
- To be responsible for the efficient management of Temporary Accommodation budgets including repairs budgets.
- To ensure effective contract monitoring for the division’s temporary accommodation contracts including repairs contracts in accordance with the Council’s standing orders and financial regulations.
- To regularly review the services provided within the Temporary Accommodation Business
2. SELECTION CRITERA
- A commitment to and understanding of the Council’s equal opportunities policy, and the ability to implement the policy in relation to the duties of the post.
- The ability to lead a team of staff managing a portfolio of properties and providing tenant services for homeless households and ensure full compliance with all aspects of Health and Safety for staff, tenants and properties.
- A working knowledge of housing law relating to security of tenure, the management of tenanted properties and the Council's temporary accommodation duties to homeless households.
- The ability to communicate effectively, in writing or verbally, and negotiate with landlords and other agents to procure and manage suitable accommodation.
- The ability to manage budgets, and an understanding of rent accounting and of financial administration in the checking and payment of accounts.
- The ability to evaluate property conditions and understand the principles of property maintenance.
- A working knowledge of and ability to instigate and monitor all Health and Safety requirements in all forms of temporary accommodation.
- The ability to work effectively as a member of a team and to contribute to policy development and partnership arrangements.
