**Job Purpose and Background**

CDP has an exciting opportunity for an exceptional external-facing Associate Director to represent CDP globally, building strong relationships with strategic global partners to advance city, state and regional action on climate change and the environment.

You will be a senior member of the Cities, States and Regions team, overseeing a team of experienced regional managers who are responsible for growing the program in their geography, building relationships with cities, states and regions, forging key regional partnerships, and generating income.

**About the Cities, States and Regions Team**

We support over 1,200 cities, states and regions globally to report environmental data each year, helping them to manage emissions, build resilience and create better places for people to live and work. This information is used by major universities, the UNFCCC, the World Bank, the IPCC, and many other organizations which rely on CDP’s sub-national government data for research and decision-making.

Key responsibilities include:

- Lead CDP’s strategy for engaging with over 1,200 cities, states and regions globally through its annual reporting work, growing engagement, and ensuring an optimal user experience by these stakeholder of CDP’s services
- Support the Global Director, Cities, States and Regions, in rolling out CDP's strategic plan by assisting with the implementation of the team’s 3-year program plan across global regions
- Manage and develop CDP's strategic relationships with key organizations working with sub-national governments to support cities, states and regions in their efforts to decarbonize and build resilience to the impacts of climate change
- Provide strategic input and management of high-level international projects and campaigns
- Provide strategic direction to the communications team to implement the communications plan across our global regions and in close cooperation with partners, and ensure the production of high quality and effective communications and marketing outputs
- Manage and matrix manage a team of managers to work with cities, states and regions globally and enhance and maximize opportunities for collaboration at a regional level
- Present CDP's vision for low carbon and resilient cities, state and regional governments to a wide range of high-level audiences through round tables, webinars and other events, and raise the program’s profile externally

Required skills and experience:

- Experience working in environmental management, sustainability, or a related field, including at least 7 years in a management position.
- Expertise in leadership and development of a global team.
- Excellent understanding of the role of sub-national governments in the global fight against climate change.
- Outstanding communication and influencing skills to articulate and increase buy-in for CDP’s vision.
- Track record of generating income.
- Experience working internationally and across cultures.
- A flexible and proactive approach to problem solving and a willingness to manage change.

Desirable skills and experience:

- Experience working on marketing and communications campaigns, experience as a spokesperson to the media
- Experience of strategic engagement to communicate the value of CDP and improve user experience
- Commercial experience rolling out products and services to governments
- An interest in climate data and technology
