To support a research study aimed at identifying biomarkers and developing a functional
assay to predict tumour sensitivity to PDGFR inhibitors. You will actively support a number
of tasks ranging from laboratory work (e.g.; cell culture, proliferation assays) to more
office-based activities such as data analysis and preparation of reports.

**Specific responsibilities and accountabilities**
- Follow protocols and work closely with the supervisory team to conduct

laboratory experiments in order to meet project milestones.
- Identify consumables and materials for laboratory experiments.
- Contribute to the preparation of grant reports to funder
- Present data to the project team in meetings

**Generic to all Research Assistant roles:
**- Undertake basic research for example by preparing, setting up, conducting and

recording the outcome of experiments
- Conduct literature and database searches.
- Continue to update knowledge and develop skills.
- Seek to exploit the outcomes of research.
- Assist in the supervision of student projects.
- Could be expected to contribute to delivery of modules for example on the use of

research methods and equipment.

**Circumstances**:

- Willingness to work outside of normal working hours albeit infrequently

(including evenings and weekends), from time to time, as required.
- Support, on an ad-hoc basis, undergraduate teaching and/or research

supervision.

- Undertake other duties and tasks as may be necessary after consultation with

**Qualifications and Professional Memberships**:
BSc degree in biology, biological sciences, biochemistry or a related discipline (or
expected to complete soon).

**Knowledge and Experience**:

- Experience of working in a laboratory environment
- Ability to evaluate and interpret scientific data independently
- Experience of writing detailed protocols and reports
- Knowledge of mammalian cell biology
- Knowledge of anti-cancer drug development
- Ability to work under pressure
- IT competency including Excel, Word and PowerPoint

**_Desirable _**

MSc degree in cell or molecular biology, biochemistry or a related discipline

**Knowledge and Experience**:_ _**
- Experience in mammalian cell culture
- Experience in molecular biology techniques including Western blotting, PCR and

flow cytometry
- Experience in cell proliferation and viability assays
- Experience in cell based small molecule screening
- Publications in a relevant scientific discipline journal
