**About the role**

We have an exciting opportunity to join our Waitrose team as a Technologist in our meat, poultry, fish, dairy & eggs team. Specifically the role would be managing our dairy categories including milk, yogurts, juice, dairy alts and eggs.

A key part of this role will be the technical management of a range of new and existing Waitrose products and their manufacture (at external manufacturers and/or farms) to ensure the quality, safety, legality and relevant brand standards and provenance of those products and their components.

**Key responsibilities will include but not be limited to**

Ensure compliance to Waitrose quality, safety, legal and integrity and relevant brand standards for products and suppliers.

Liaise directly with the CSR, Health and Agri Team to provide input into the development of their strategy for own area with the Category Pod and then delivery of this strategy within the supply base.

Manage technical elements of New Product Development (NPD) programmes and Product Tender programmes for the category alongside other Category Technical Managers, Buying and Brand Development functions.

Develop and maintain robust external network in order to influence development of standards relevant to own category and to maintain manufacturing knowledge and drive best practice in supply base.

Create technical improvement plans (identifying poor suppliers, measure and define actions manage to satisfactory conclusion) and lead investigations on quality safety ethical non compliance.

Onboarding new suppliers in line with Waitrose Technical standards.

**Essential skills and experience**
- Degree in food science or similar
- HACCP training
- Specialist training e.g allergens, microbiology, pesticide management, specification management and product labelling legal requirements
- Additional specialist qualifications in specific category or product areas as required
- Foundation level technical management experience within the food industry
- Supplier management and technical development

**Desirable skills and experience**
- Lead Assessor training
