**About The Role**
**Overall Description of Duties**
The post holder will help develop commercial relationships to feed into both the technical and high level commercial analysis of flexibility assets, looking to benefit from the Ecotricity aggregation proposition, will also play a key part in the onboarding and undertaking of the necessary steps to integrate such assets into our Ecolibrium virtual power plant (VPP) platform, including working on our VPP ‘Software as a Service’ product Ecolink on the software and hardware aspects of the integration.
**Ecotricity Smart Grid**
Is a corporate entity set up with the specific aim of enabling electricity storage (batteries) deployment on behalf of Ecotricity and is tasked with creating a ‘Virtual Power Plant’ through aggregating a diverse group of generation, demand and storage loads, such that they can respond instantly to centralised signals to vary power output according to system needs & value. This grouping will include 3rd party generators (i.e. those that can be flexed) who have power purchase agreements, as well as larger Ecotricity business customers who either have behind the meter generation or the ability to alter their electricity usage.
**Smart Grids Team Context**
The Smart Grids team is responsible for maintaining the platform and architecture of the VPP, as well as developing the associated software and models for the Ecotricity Virtual Power Plant. Critical to this is the optimisation model which determines asset deployment. Customer experience will also be a USP, so to this end we will shortly be developing our own web presence.
Ecolibrium works alongside the Ecotricity Trading team, so as to derive revenues from the traded and balancing markets, and also Grid ancillary services.
There will necessarily be close relationship with both the Ecotricity’s Development team in order to progress, developable, commercially viable projects through to deployment to fit in with VPP needs. Similarly, there will be close relationships with both the domestic and business parts of sales, as both areas will be able to deliver flexibility into the VPP given the right incentives and products, which Ecotricity Smart Grid will be instrumental in helping develop.
**Core Responsibilities**
- Assist on delivery of suitable Energy Storage solutions from domestic through to utility scale
- Be informed and maintain up to date information and knowledge on optimal avenues to deploy energy storage technologies
- Develop and maintain knowledge of all emerging flexible technologies of interest to the VPP, and assess the commercial viability of same.
- Identify and develop leads for asset business development, including attending conferences & industry fairs where necessary
- Assist in contract negotiations for procurement of technology
- Assist in commercial negotiations and contracting with flexibility asset owners
- Work closely with key internal stakeholders from the planning, construction and operations teams
- Build relationships with key external technical stakeholders, in particular National Grid ESO with whom this role has a high degree of interaction.
- Work within team on ensuring necessary qualification work is complete for qualification for ancillary services (see above re Grid)
- Ensure asset development is aligned with National Grid ESO and Distributed Network Operator (DNO) needs (size, location, design)
**Additional Responsibilities**
- Assist in strategy development for the team.
- Attend relevant internal and external meetings where technical input is required.
- Raise POs and track the annual budget for the department, providing a monthly summary of spend.
- Assist Head and Smart Grid Commercial Manager in attending and following policy and regulatory developments that impact upon aggregation proposition, and keep up to date with current legislation, policy development and other issues relevant to the position within the company and renewable energy industry
**About You**
**Essential Skills**
- Technical understanding of renewable technologies, in particular energy storage.
- Excellent analytical ability
- Good commercial acumen
- Excellent MS Excel and data competency (SQL minimum) skills
- A pro-active ‘can-do’ attitude
- Good communication abilities. This role will interact with senior stakeholders & decision makers.
- Understanding of power and the UK energy framework
**Desirable Skills**
- Some revenue modelling skills/experience
- Understanding of current and future subsidy regimes
- Understanding of Python, Power BI and AWS would be an asset.
- Good presentation skills
- Electrical knowledge & understanding at asset and network level.
- Report writing ability.
