**JOB TITLE: Corporate Health and Safety Advisor**

**LOCATION: Ealing (Flexible working)**

**PAY RATE: £275 PAYE / £370.32 Umbrella Daily**

**START DATE: ASAP**

**DURATION/Hours: 3-month initial contract/ 35 hours a week**

**Role overview**:

- The Corporate Health and Safety (CHS) service are seeking an experienced and motivated health and safety advisor to join a team of specialists. We are a very busy team advising, inspecting, auditing and supporting services across the Council.

**Role purpose**:

- To provide a competent, pragmatic, professional health and safety advisory and support service to Council services and monitor compliance through audits and inspections.
- To aid in the development, implementation, promotion, review and monitoring of the Councils Health and Safety Management System, associated policies and procedures.

**Key objectives of the role are**:

- To ensure that the Council remains compliant with health and safety legislation and requirements.
- To audit and inspect service units / council teams to monitor and highlight area of non-compliance or unsafe working practices. To work with managers and staff following audits to rectify issues highlighted.
- To be customer focused and influential in the development of a positive safety culture.
- To be a key member of the Corporate Health and Safety team delivering efficient and effective health and safety services including, where applicable, to the agreed Service Level Agreements (SLA) and key performance indicators (KPIs).

**Duties & responsibilities**:

- Provide advice and guidance to Ealing Council with the aim of reducing work related injuries and ill health.
- Complete health and safety audits and inspections
- Ensure that inspections and audits take into account the differing legislative and civil duties imposed depending on the area of council operations e.g. legal duties as landlord
- To assist managers to investigate all relevant accidents/dangerous occurrences for the Council as well as where appropriate undertaking more detailed investigations.
- To support directors and senior managers in managing health and safety by providing required reports e.g. performance reports, annual reports, etc.
- Analyse accident / incident information and statistics to help managers inform strategies to reduce rates of near misses, accidents and work related ill health

**Knowledge & Experience**:

- Good level of knowledge and understanding of health and safety terminology, legislation and best practice
- Be able to correctly prioritise health and safety work requests and activities.
- Knowledge of construction related health and safety standards.
- Good understanding of the legal and best practice framework for the management of fire and asbestos in both commercial and domestic properties
- NEBOSH General Certificate in H&S (essential requirement)
- NEBOSH H&S Diploma or equivalent (desired)
- NEBOSH Fire Safety Certificate (desired).
- IOSH membership of at least TechIOSH level (essential)
