Position Responsibilities:
We are looking for an experienced
**Head of Design Management **to lead our growng UK Design Management team, this role will be based out of our UK office in Birmingham, and will be required in the office on a hybrid basis two to three days per week.

The Head of Design Management will lead the Design Management team and be actively involved in the Design Management of an assigned project. It will be the Head of Design Managements responsibility to assign team members to projects in line with the appropriate skills and capability of each team member ensuring agreed utilisation targets are achieved. Departmental duties will also involve growing the team with suitably qualified professionals and developing the team in line with both the business and individuals’ objectives.

**Job Duties and Responsibilities**

**Project Responsibilities**
- Coordinate with project management to determine scope and planning / scheduling requirements of projects.
- Responsible for Multi-Discipline Design Coordination across projects, working with both IPS personnel and project partners.
- Liaise with Document Control to ensure engineering deliverables (electronic and hard copy) are issued to the correct stakeholders defining purpose for which they are issued.
- Identify scope changes to the Project Manager and communicate clear directive to the team as to if and how these changes should be implemented.
- Manage the overall project design tracker including action close out and reporting.
- Ensure formatting, document numbering and correct templates are being used and the design level of detail is in accordance with the agreed (sold) scope of work (via the PEP).
- Ensure each design lead is accountable for their specific deliverables to ensure these are done to budget within the agreed project schedule.
- Identify any issues, in a pro-active manner, to the Project Manager that may have an adverse impact to cost and schedule.
- Prepare regular reports and analysis, setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.

**Safety**
- Arrange and (where appropriate) facilitate Designer / Process Safety Reviews.
- Ensure Designers Risk Assessments are appropriately completed.

**Client Focus**
- Supports the Project Sponsor and Project Manager to maintain a positive Client relationship.

**Organisation Development**
- Support development of Project Execution Plans (PEP) with particular emphasis on RACI and Distribution Lists for technical documentation.
- Support the Planning and scheduling of work including participation in Interactive Planning Meetings (IAP).
- Support the Project Management team with Earned Value Analysis and / or other appropriate productivity measures.

**Technology and Innovation**
- Arrange and (where appropriate) facilitate Design Reviews (30%, 60%, 90% Design maturity stages minimum).
- Expedite and disseminate technical information between IPS disciplines and from both Clients and Supply Chain partners as required.
- Attend technical meetings to ensure important and relevant project / technical information is shared across the project.
- Support Engineering Leads to drive technical solutions to an appropriate conclusion in a timely manner.
- Communicate design package to the Construction Management Team (including sub-contractors) and Facilitate “page turn” with each work package lead.
- Technical support to the Construction team and communicate the impact of change to the design and qualification processes.

**Growth**
- Maintain team morale through pro-active and collaborative working.
- Identify adequate training, technical, administrative guidance with the department managers.

Qualifications & Requirements:

- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / relevant degree.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in Engineering, Project Delivery or a related discipline working on projects within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.
- Analytical thinking, structured problem-solving skills, effective communication skills, team building and strong work ethic. Must be able to build a rapport with stakeholders.
- Progressive ability, capacity and aptitude in administration to plan, organise, supervise, coordinate technical work and obtain cooperation from others.
- Ability to work on their own initiative in a collaborative and fast-paced environment.
