Would you like to be part of our exciting and innovative team working to support families across Cornwall? We are a team of 13 staff and over 70 volunteers and we are looking for a new team member. We can offer flexible working hours and a generous annual leave allowance. _
The position is home-based within Cornwall, with travel to family/volunteer homes and group locations across mid Cornwall but with travel required across Cornwall depending on demand and the needs of the service. You will also be required to attend monthly in-person team meetings. Travel expenses will be reimbursed in accordance with HMRC standard rates.
**Hours of work**: 30 hours per week to be worked flexibly (including occasional weekend or evenings) as the service requires.
**Job Purpose**:Working as part of the Home-Start Kernow core service delivery model, to deliver a peer-support model of volunteer home-visiting and group support for families of early years children in accordance with project objectives and relevant Home-Start policies and procedures.
**Responsibilities**:
- Work as a member of a team, supporting, collaborating with, and covering for colleagues as necessary.
- Work with colleagues to recruit, select and train a cohort of local peer volunteers.
- Induct, support and supervise local peer support volunteers within the Home-Start training and supervision framework and up-skill existing volunteers.
- Carry out a detailed assessment of the needs of families seeking/referred for support.
- Offer families appropriate support from within the delivery model. Regularly review the support delivered to individual families in line with policy, practice guidance, and proactively manage the conclusion of peer support within the service model.
- Deliver group support (face to face or virtually) covering a range of issues such as bonding and attachment, child safety, healthy eating, speech, and language to meet locally identified need.
- Work closely with local partner colleagues in Social Care and Children’s Community Health services.
- Maintain records on the Charity Log recording system and oversee volunteer input into this.
- Build networks with local stakeholders and proactively promote the work of Home-Start.
- Participate in the evaluation of the service delivery model.
- Undertake other work as directed/delegated by your line manager to support the management, delivery, promotion and future funding of the project.
**Person Specification**
**Essential**
Good standard of education (A level, NVQ level 4 or equivalent) with good written and verbal communication skills.
Working experience/knowledge of all elements of the project delivery model - taking referrals, assessing needs, and supporting families through virtual and face-to face, home-based and group mechanisms.
Experience of recruiting, training, deploying and supporting volunteers.
Understanding of the needs of families with young children.
Knowledge of the roles of agencies providing services for children and families.
High level of self-awareness and excellent self-organisation skills.
A positive, creative, enthusiastic and flexible approach to tackling tasks.
Commitment to team working.
Ability to work in a trauma informed way with all stakeholders.
Knowledge of and commitment to good safeguarding, equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory practice.
Knowledge of current legislation and policies relating to children and families.
IT skills. Confident in the use of Microsoft Office and experience of using databases in the workplace.
**Desirable**
Relevant professional training in, for example, Early Years, Health, Education, Social Care.
Experience of work in the voluntary sector as a volunteer.
Experience of working with beneficiaries and volunteers.
Parenting experience.
**Special requirements**
**Ability to work flexibly - occasional evening or weekend work.**
**Car driver with access to a vehicle.**
