The Datix System Administrator and Risk Officer will primarily be responsible for:

- Day to Day management of the Datix local risk management system including Data Quality, Reporting, System Configuration and Maintenance
- Analysing and presenting information in various formats for groups across the trust and externally.
- Supporting the Quality and Standards Division in promoting good risk management practice throughout the Trust.

This is an exciting time to join the Trust, as we make progress towards implementing the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework which will help us to learn more effectively from incidents.
The Datix System Administrator and Risk Officer will have a key role in the roll out of a new DATIX system and so the role would suit someone with a background in LRMS administration who is interested in gaining experience in project and programme management, quality improvement and data insight and analysis.

Experience of working with local risk management software is essential to this role,

The Christie is one of Europe’s leading cancer centres, treating over 60,000 patients a year. We are based in Manchester and serve a population of 3.2 million across Greater Manchester & Cheshire, but as a national specialist around 15% patients are referred to us from other parts of the country. We provide radiotherapy through one of the largest radiotherapy departments in the world; chemotherapy on site and through 14 other hospitals; highly specialist surgery for complex and rare cancer; and a wide range of support and diagnostic services. We are also an international leader in research, with world first breakthroughs for over 100 years. We run one of the largest early clinical trial units in Europe with over 300 trials every year. Cancer research in Manchester, most of which is undertaken on the Christie site, has been officially ranked the best in the UK.

Incident reporting and risk management

1. Ensure that all information within incidents and risk modules of Datix is accurate and up-to-date for incident investigation and reporting purposes.

2. Use initiative to ensure that all required information has been entered onto the incident report and highlight any omissions.

3. Allocate handlers for Grade 1 and 2 incidents as soon as the report is received, to ensure appropriate investigation.

4. Grant and manage access to the Datix databases and ensure relevant people receive appropriate notifications for information (e.g. moving and handling, infection control, security, finance, safeguarding) and forward incident reports to the appropriate Senior Manager for investigation.

5. Highlight where any reports to external organisations need to be made, e.g. HSE, MHRA, and be responsible for submitting the report and providing additional information as required.

6. Highlight any failures to complete investigations within the designated timescale to handler, and initiate escalation process to Patient Safety and Risk Manager and Patient Safety and Risk Lead in a staged process.

7. Update the database with any new or additional information relating to an incident report during or following investigation.

8. Follow process for closing off incidents and attach any information relating to the incident that subsequently becomes available. Ensure electronic filing system is well maintained.

9. Take responsibility for updating the reports schedule in line with the requirements of the divisions and various trust committees.

10. Plan, design and produce scheduled and ad hoc reports from Datix and Datixweb for managers and committees, to include trend analysis and recommendations for change where appropriate.

11. Collate and present statistical information on incidents for the divisional and departmental performance and board reports.

12. Collate and produce papers for weekly Executive Review Group and Friday FoCUS and provide administrative support to these meetings.

13. Undertake the process, including escalation, for the distribution of safety alerts and notices issued through the Central Alerting System and chase outstanding responses to ensure full compliance with required actions within the set deadlines.

14. Act as liaison point for other organisations for incidents that are their responsibility or are being reported by another organisation about The Christie services.
