Next Steps Accommodation Programme

The City of Lincoln Council’s Rough Sleeping Project Team are looking for an experienced support worker to work with those accommodated through our “Next Steps Accommodation Project" (NSAP).
Working with persons either at risk of rough sleeping, or having previously slept rough, you will be working to support those in long term supported accommodation as part of the journey to independent tenancies and accommodation. With a typical caseload of 10 service users you will work closely with your service user to determine, coordinate, deliver and link in with other agencies to support to prevent the risk of return to rough sleeping.
**Key responsibilities**:
- Provide a pro-active and dedicated service to those with a history of, or risk of, rough sleeping, giving timely advice and assistance to encourage tenancy sustainability.
- To provide a holistic intensive housing related support service to service users who have been former rough sleepers both at the time of moving in and throughout the accommodation placement.
- Responsibility for determination, establishing and maintaining holistic support in new tenancies.
- Create and maintain personalised support plans.
- Ongoing tenancy and estate management support to resolve breach of tenancy.
- Support income maximisation and take-up of benefits entitlement.
- Signposting to other welfare benefits & supporting to access.
- Sign posting to and supporting with access to other support provisions and agencies (e.g. physical and mental health, substance misuse).
- Partnership working to ensure all identified support needs are addressed.
- Support to successfully maintain their tenancy whilst remaining independent.
- Advice and support for prevention of rent arrears and support to resolve where accrued, requesting managed payments where necessary.
- Provide advice on tenancy conditions and support to sustain all tenancy conditions.
- Support service users to order repairs as necessary and act as the main point of contact for access for repairs & statutory checks e.g. gas safety checks.
- Monitor the condition of property and support to improve where necessary, keeping records of any damage caused/repairs needed/furniture to be replaced.
- Manage and order any new equipment at the end of any occupation period and facilitate replacement goods ahead of the voids process.
- Ability to determine priorities and work to deadlines.
- Experience and working involvement with a range of professionals, within the delivery of various services (mental health, physical health, substance misuse, care, criminal justice, social services, prison).
- Ability to successfully negotiate.
- Prepared to work flexibly including working outside normal office hours e.g. attending evening meetings.
- GCSE English and Maths to minimum Grade C or equivalent qualification and/or experience.
- Ability to work in a non-discriminatory manner, in accordance with the Council’s Equality, Diversity and Human Rights Policy.
