Your role will be pivotal in supporting our clinical ward/teams, guiding them in assessing, implementing, and evaluating patient care strategies. You'll be the driving force behind educational activities, fostering a culture of learning within the division of Surgery.
Joining our clinical educator team, you'll be the go-to expert in Oncology, collaborating with staff to ensure the latest skills and knowledge are integrated into practice. You'll have the autonomy to manage your workload efficiently, all while contributing to departmental and trust targets.
We are looking for a competent and experienced healthcare professional with significant post registration experience. You will have experience of teaching within a healthcare setting to both medical and nursing teams and possess a relevant teaching and assessing qualification. To succeed in this role, you will need to be passionate about education and training.
You will be expected to lead and develop training and education for all clinical areas within oncology and to maintain accurate and up to date training records and will be expected to produce reports from this data for managers within the oncology directorate and nursing division.
To support the ward and unit managers and matron in implementing the trust procedures for underperforming staff.
To reduce clinical risk and promote patient safety through the development of educational programmes and assessment of clinical skills and competencies.
To demonstrate clinical leadership and act as a role model
To assist in the training of SACT (systemic anticancer treatment) and oncology emergencies to all staff within the clinical areas.
To support the new staff with induction and training within the first 12 months or their new employment and beyond

To lead on the development of clinical competence within the workplace across the range of healthcare professionals in line with agreed directorate and Trust educational development strategies and priorities.
To facilitate the development and delivery of multi-professional learning within the clinical environment.
To formulate, deliver, and evaluate evidence-based training sessions and programmes to meet the identified needs of staff within the Directorate of Oncology which reflect service need.
Planning and delivery of Inductions for new Nursing staff in the Oncology department who are newly qualified, experienced from out of the trust of substantive staff from other areas within the trust.
Provide pastoral support to all staff members, keeping clear records of conversations as required.
Attend Cascade training updates and deliver mandatory training such as ABLS/PBLS, ANTT, Moving and Handling, medical devices, blood fridge training and clinical competencies within the department.
Book specific training for staff during their induction including flex Harris and work clinically with staff to ensure they are happy with the use of the system.
Deliver training specific for Oncology including Safe handling, administration, management of spillages, extravasation, SACT hypersensitivity and reactions, oncology emergencies etc.
Monitor the monthly training compliance reports, liaise with individuals and departments to cascade training information, and support the completion of mandatory training.
Work clinically with staff to complete competencies, including medication rounds which will require a minimum of 6 supervised medication rounds.
Management and documentation of the clinical competencies (Currently paper based, eventually will be online)
Liaise with the cancer education hub to support staff in the attendance of the SACT university module.
Support staff with the completion of the UKONS SACT workbook, complete the marker competency and mark the workbooks.
