An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Children's Emergency Department nurse to join us as a Practice Educator. This is a new post to work in our Children's Emergency Departments at Epsom and St Helier Hospital's. You will be part of the Neonatal and Paediatric Education Team and will work alongside staff and students in the department to ensure high standards of education and training are delivered to all members of the working team. The service has a Children's Emergency Department Matron and is also supported by two Advanced Nurse Practitioners who will work in partnership with you to achieve your objectives. You should be motivated, self directed and enthusiastic and be able to work flexibly to meet the service requirements.

As a Practice Educator you should be able to demonstrate you can work at a Masters level or be willing to undertake further training. You will also be part of the Children and Young People's senior nursing leadership team and support the operational delivery of the service, therefore strong leadership and management skills would be advantageous. In return you will be offered a personal development plan and have access to management, restorative and safeguarding supervision.

This role would suit someone looking to develop in the area of Children's Emergency services and passionate about ensuring a highly skilled nursing workforce for the future.

To act as a professional role model and demonstrate expertise in delivering evidence based practice when caring for children and young people.
- To ensure that patient care standards and their experience are exemplary and any poor practice is identified and action plans implemented.
- To provide visible leadership and support to ensure that the highest standards of patient care is maintained.
- To work in partnership with ward managers and matrons to identify staff development and education needs in order to provide a tailor-made programme of education and act as a professional role model and coach at all times.
- Facilitate and evaluate learning and change in practice and participate in a variety of education programmes to develop knowledge and skills across the multidisciplinary team, providing both formal and bedside teaching as required.
- To provide a high level of clinical advice and expertise to wards in relation to children who have the potential to deteriorate
- To teach, support and empower junior staff in their clinical decision-making.
- To provide senior nursing support, professional and clinical advice in all areas where children may be seen, including inpatient ward, emergency department, outpatients and community.
- To respond to and provide senior nursing support in the event of a clinical emergency.
