The purpose of the role is to act as a learning mentor for students accessing support with their studies on discrete SEN programmes through the Tuition Fund programme. The support will be in the form of working with small groups of students at a time. Mentors will work to enable learners to bridge gaps in knowledge where learning was disrupted because of missed education during 2020/21. This will include supporting learners with a range of learning difficulties covering areas such as: Personal & Social Development, Study Skills, overcoming anxiety, learning behavioural strategies and Maths & English.

**KEY ROLES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES**:
**Academic Mentoring and Support**:

- To follow the direction and participate in discussion with the CRQ Leader regarding the content and delivery of small group mentoring and support sessions.
- To participate in the design and delivery of mentoring and support sessions enabling students to access online or learning materials that will give them the opportunity to address gaps in vocational knowledge and skills and to prepare them for assessments and examinations.
- To track, monitor and inform on the progress of students through Pro Monitor to identify further learning opportunities and review impact of support.
- To assist and raise the aspiration of students to access learning materials in college and remotely.
- To co-ordinate and deliver an active programme bespoke to individual student needs.
- To provide support to students enabling them to learn new topics and skills to improve their own learning and performance in the areas of Computing and Digital Media.
- To provide students, in collaboration with the vocational team, guidance and support to further their progress.
- To collaborate with CRQ Leader to set target for all students accessing Tuition Funding.
- To monitor and assist in the improvement of attendance and progress, identify those at risk and supporting intervention tactics working with the CRQ Leader, curriculum staff parents/guardians to get learners back on target.
- To provide feedback to students to enable them to improve grades and performance and assist them in developing personal development skills.
- To assist in devising and delivering assessment plans/materials.
- To work with Personal Learning Coaches to support this vulnerable group of students
- Liaise with the High Needs team to support students with additional needs and an EHCP.

**Additional Duties**:

- To liaise with curriculum and support staff to compile and produce reports for EHCP annual reviews, parents and employers as required.
- To contribute to College self-assessment processes.
- To attend internal and external staff development events when required.
- To undertake such other duties as are reasonably allocated either permanently or from time to time.
- To complete First Aid qualification and act as a duty first aider as required.

**GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITIES**
- To commit to the safeguarding and promotion of the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults.
- To participate in the College’s Performance Management Scheme and attend such training events as are necessary to enable him/her to carry out the duties of the job description.
- To continually improve teaching, learning and assessment through proactive CPD and sharing best practice.
- To actively participate in the College’s Quality System, including quality improvement strategies and initiatives.
- To undertake such other duties as may be assigned commensurate with the grade and purpose of the post.
- To take reasonable care for the health and safety of him/her and for others affected by his/her work.
- To actively support College Safeguarding, Equality and Diversity policies.
- To operate/conduct all HR tasks and functions within the principles of GDPR.

**CONDITIONS OF SERVICE**

All successful applicants will undergo the following checks:

- Enhanced DBS
- 2 x References, one of which must be your current or most recent employer
- Qualification validation check

**SALARY**

The salary range for this post is from £21,234 to £23,249 per annum. Your starting salary will be dependent upon your qualifications and experience. Once you have successfully passed your probationary period, your salary will increase within the salary band on an annual incremental basis, until you reach the top of the salary scale.

**HOURS OF WORK**

The hours of work will be based on 37 hours per week, 52 weeks per annum.

**ANNUAL LEAVE**

The post carries 25 annual leave days, plus eight public bank holidays plus a further five concessionary days as ‘leave to be taken at the Principal’s discretion’.
