**The Senior Policy Adviser role**:
This role is primarily to support the work of Nuleaf, a network of 100 local authorities and National Parks affiliated to the Local Government Association. We organise online and occasional in person meetings and events for our members and support them in a variety of ways.

This is a rewarding role, working in the important area of nuclear decommissioning and waste management. You will help deliver better outcomes for nuclear communities across England and Wales. You will learn about the sector as you work and be able to engage with the active and diverse range of people within our network.

**Your responsibilities as our Senior Policy Adviser**:

- building a detailed understanding of the nuclear sector in the UK and internationally and how it impacts on Nuleaf member local authorities. building strong and effective relationships with the UK and Welsh Government, Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA), Magnox, Nuclear Waste Services and regulators. Representing Nuleaf and fully participating in relevant meetings with these and other organisations- preparing papers for Nuleaf’s Steering Group and Radioactive Waste Planning Group; and contributing to our newsletter and Ebulletin; social media and other communications- drafting documents on behalf of Nuleaf, including responses to national consultations, policy and guidance papers, advice notes for member authorities, and articles for Local Government and Professional media- undertaking research on aspects of nuclear legacy management, including the clean-up of nuclear sites, nuclear decommissioning and radioactive waste management, in order to inform development of Nuleaf policy and advice to member authorities. developing relationships with member authorities, including provision of advice on specific local issues- undertaking and managing project work as and when requested by the Executive Director- deputising for the Executive Director as and when requested.
**What we’re looking for in our Senior Policy Adviser**:

- knowledge and understanding of policy and practice in nuclear decommissioning, waste management and local government both at a UK level and internationally. A broader understanding of UK and devolved energy policy and of wider agendas such as sustainable development, social value and net zero carbon would be of benefit- an ability to formulate clear and concise reports and presentations, analysing complex technical information and reporting it clearly to a wider audience- experience of working in a political environment and also with technical experts- experience of working collaboratively with a range of stakeholders and partners to develop shared solutions to complex problems- excellent communication skills with an ability to represent Nuleaf effectively within a range of government and industry fora- an ability to work independently at home, to plan ahead and prioritise to meet deadlines and provide reliable project support- use of creative thinking and problem solving to develop research and advice.
**The Team**:
Nuleaf represents local authorities in England and Wales on Nuclear decommissioning and waste management. We have around 100 local authorities and a national parks as members and act as the voice of the wider Local Government Association (LGA) on these issues. Our membership is diverse in nature and in terms of their views on nuclear power

**As our Senior Policy Adviser we will offer you**:
The ability to work in an enthusiastic and supportive team, influencing policy and strategy as it affects the many communities across the country that are impacted on by legacy nuclear sites. Work patterns are flexible and can be designed around other commitments you have. You will receive support in learning more about the sector and about the work of local government in this important area.

**Travel and workplace requirements**:
We positively encourage the use of technology to communicate, but on occasions, there may be a requirement for you to travel to locations away from your contractual base, using reasonable and suitable means available to you. Most travel is likely to be within the UK but there may be opportunities to engage in international meetings.

This role supports hybrid working, a broadly even balance between working from home and working from an office/community setting. However, the expectation is that work will be on an entirely remote basis at home.
