**About the Department**:
Collections Care & Digitisation (CCD) is a unit within the SOAS Collections Group of the SOAS Library, Learning and Research Services. The Group is comprised of CCD, Special Collections and the Galleries. CCD is responsible for conservation and digitisation of library collections. While it works closely within the Group, it also executes plans of action in general and remote collections.

CCD was preceded by a Digitisation unit in existence since 2013 that grew from funded digitisation projects. Addition of conservation is intended to create a seamless core for care of physical collections and their digital transformations.

**_About the _**_Role_**

The Digitisation Lead is responsible for leading an in-house digitisation programme equipped with 4 book scanners and a variety of other scanners and dSLR. Experience with large digitisation projects is a plus. The Lead supervises 0.5 FTE permanent staff as well as project staff to be hired for emerging and continuing projects while the post-holder is on secondment. Emerging projects are likely to include aerial photographs, theses, and the whole of the Africa Department Library (76 record storage boxes of books and pamphlets). Continuing projects, should emerging projects allow, include original source material documenting the history of Opium in China as well as collection on Manchu language texts. The post works alongside the Conservator and the Digital Collections Archivist.
