**Facilities Assistant**

**Edinburgh Printmakers** is at an exciting point in its development, after the successful launch of a new home in Fountainbridge in 2019. This is enabling us to position ourselves as a beacon cultural organisation for our neighbourhood, playing an active role in placemaking in a rapidly changing area of the city. Our new building has enabled us to significantly expand our offer, with new studios and galleries, a dynamic programme of exhibitions, sell-out events and courses, creative spaces across Scotland, accommodation for visiting artists, an archive, café, and shop.

**Job description**

Reporting to: Building Supervisor
Location: Edinburgh Printmakers, Castle Mills, 1 Dundee Street, Edinburgh EH3 9FP
Working hours: Flexible 10-16 hrs a week
Work pattern: Tues-Sun

Occasional travel and weekend/evening work, with time off in lieu
Salary Scale: £10.90 per hour
Annual leave: 33 days, including public holidays [pro-rated]

**Main Duties and Responsibilities**

We seek a Facilities Assistant to provide support in the efficient operation and maintenance of the premises and all building technical systems. The post holder will support the Building Supervisor to maintain the efficient running of our building, ensuring that facilities and all equipment is maintained safely to the highest standards. Staff are required to work flexibly compatible with their jobs, building staffing requirements and in line with the objectives of the organisation. To support this, we operate flexitime and TOIL.

**Buildings and Equipment Maintenance**
- Provide support for the efficient operation and maintenance of the premises
- Assist the Building Supervisor with the management of all technical systems including lift, heating, water management and ventilation systems, lighting, plumbing, fire and security systems
- Assist with the maintenance of the premises, inside and out, and contribute to cleaning
- Undertake work programmed where appropriate and assist with recycling and environmental sustainability for the organisation
- Assist with technical support for the organisation’s activities, including occasional installation of exhibitions and projects
- Provide support for issue and stock control of PPE and other building consumables

**Safety and Security**
- Follow and promote health and safety policy
- Assist in coordinating fire evacuation procedures and regular fire drill practice
- Assist with risk assessments and any incident reports
- Develop an understanding and knowledge of the building’s technical services, and equipment used within operations e.g. digital media
- Assist with maintaining the stock of cleaning and caretaking materials and ensuring their safe storage and use
- Contribute to regular audits of the premises and equipment
- Be alert to any indication or potential for breaches of Health and Safety policies and procedures, and report to the Building Supervisor

**Customer Service**
- Assist with reporting general and emergency repairs, and proactively seek to resolve issues for building users
- Liaise with staff to ensure that rooms are prepared for events and hires and set out and equipped as requested
- Support the Building Supervisor to keep public areas clean, tidy, equipped, and operational
- Assist building users and visitors, as necessary, with access issues

**Other Responsibilities**
- Attend and contribute to staff meetings
- Carry out any other duties as reasonably requested by the Building Supervisor

**Person Specification**

**Essential Skills & Experience**
- Some experience of working in a public or heritage building in a support role, either paid or voluntary
- Repair and maintenance skills
- Experience of using a range of tools and equipment safely and effectively
- Some experience of customer service & dealing effectively with a wide range of people
- Organised with the ability to work to deadlines and manage time and priorities effectively
- Friendly and supportive personality with a respect for artists and their creative practices
- An understanding of equality, diversity, access and disability issues
- A positive attitude with a high level of self-motivation and ability to work on your initiative
- Willingness to learn and undertake training in areas appropriate to the post

**Desirable Skills & Experience**
- Working knowledge of digital equipment
- Experience of recycling and environmental sustainability
- Knowledge of health and safety
- Understanding of printmaking and/or contemporary visual art
- Experience of working in the arts or heritage sector
