**Job Title: Education, Learning and Skills Lead**

**Reports to Directors, Chairman and Board of Trustees**

**Salary: £25,714 - £28,000**

**No. of Role Holders: 1**

**Job Purpose**:
The Education, Learning and Skills Co-ordinator is responsible for developing and delivering education programs, individual learning plans, transition support and monitoring of the extended education provision and post 16 lifelong learning provision. The role will consist of planning timetables and individual learning plans, developing suitable education packages which address young people’s need and adheres to the relevant curriculum. We will also require the organisation of exams and assessments and to provide comprehensive internal moderation internally and for satellite provision. Time will also be spent overseeing support staff, attending relevant meetings, preparing reports for management, promoting DZ’s delivery plan, liaising with schools, Children’s Services, the Local Authority and other organisations within the area who support young people. Part of the role will be spent building strong communication links and essential relationships with parents /guardians and other support agencies to ensure a holistic service is provided.

**Key Accountabilities**:

- To support young people referred by local schools and enable them to attain, engage and achieve.
- To lead a team of staff to deliver academic and life skills education.
- To have a comprehensive knowledge of safeguarding procedures, protocols, and escalation routes.
- To have an awareness of the current education system.
- To have knowledge of assessment processes and internal moderation and assessing.
- To have an awareness of pathways to post 16 provision in the area.
- To seek out and develop new sources of activity which will support the development of the services offered by the education provision
- To work alongside the Directors to manage contacts and to develop a suitable curriculum with relevant frameworks.
- To oversee staff, devise appropriate timetables and cover, for absences, if needed under management supervision.
- To attend relevant meetings to ensure the Drop Zone is represented at the relevant forums.
- To record young people’s progress and keep schools and parents updated.
- To risk assess all activities which are carried out.
- To raise any concerns or issues with the directors.
- To oversee attendance records and reports.
- To keep staff updated and briefed on session delivery and outcomes.
- To understand issues faced by young people today and communicate with other agencies involved.
- To advocate on behalf of young people so they receive tailored provision.
- To ensure there are adequate resources for young people to access.
- To be responsible for portfolio building and to ensure folders are ready for moderation.
- To have an awareness of what is available in the local area for young people.
- To work within Drop Zone’s policies and procedures.
- To promote and raise awareness of Drop Zone.

**Skills and Knowledge**:

- Educated to at least Level 4 in Education or similar field of work and it would be desirable to have QTS.
- A willingness to progress and undertake relevant professional development.
- Experience in a related position.
- Awareness of current issues facing young people and their families.
- Awareness of the education system and current curriculum requirements.
- To be aware of the many legal aspects and dangers associated with young people in today’s world.
- Excellent communication skills and a non-judgemental approach to all users of the building.
- Knowledge of the local area and other agencies, organisations and support available for young people.
- The ability to thrive in challenging situations.
- To develop strategies for learners to enable them to achieve and become successful members of society.

**Organisation Structure**:

- **Supervision is a requirement of this post and is undertaken by a board member. DZ has an open door policy for staff to address any concerns they may have on a conditional basis. Staff are required to undertake annual appraisal's in January each year**

**Additional Information**:

- The Education, Learning and Skills Lead will be expected to make a commitment to further work-related training and personal development.
- Will be expected to cover staff absences if needed.
- Will be expected to occasionally work out of normal office hours.
- Will hold a driving license.
- This is a Barrow based post but some travel to other centres will be required.
