Senior Residential Care Practitioner

York, United Kingdom City of York Council Full time

This is a hugely exciting time in the development of residential services for children and young people. A new service with an innovative and forward-thinking new model, Wenlock Terrace is looking for staff to join our specialist new team.

Wenlock Terrace will support children and young people aged 11-17 years, with a complex range of needs due to, but not exclusively early trauma and attachment. These children and young people often struggle to build relationships and make sense of their emotions which can result in complex and risk-taking behaviour.

The post holder will work as part of a specialist team whilst supervising, coaching, and mentoring residential care practitioners to support children and young people and their families who are on the edge of care, who are in care or leaving care.

The post holder will take the lead on a particular area of interest, such a health and wellbeing, learning and employment, transition and independence and ensure that this role and its purpose and function is embedded in the service delivery.

The role will include:

- Community Support: providing ongoing support to young people and their families who are on the edge of care or supporting them back to their family home or supported lodgings.
- Residential Care: providing exceptional care and support when a young person requires co-ordinated support whilst living in a residential setting.
- Therapeutic Care: to support a young person requiring therapeutic care, to access the relevant services and provide oversight and pathway co-ordination in and out of health services in conjunction with multiagency care plans.

This role involves working a rota pattern with shifts covering weekends, evening and bank holidays.

As this role is public facing, applicants will need to demonstrate, at interview, their competency to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public, in spoken English to CEFR level C2: Can express him/herself spontaneously at length with a natural conversational flow, avoiding or backtracking around any difficulty so smoothly that the person with whom they are conversing is hardly aware of it.

The Council is committed to investing in the talent and wellbeing of our staff and can offer a generous annual leave allowance, access to the Local Government Pension Scheme, comprehensive Health & Wellbeing initiatives and a reward package which recognises your contribution. We can offer flexible working practices, community engagement and volunteer activities and, as part of our commitment to you, promote continuous Learning & Development. In addition we also offer a growing range of discounts, rewards and savings.

**Closing date**: Sunday 20 August at 12 midnight

**Interview date**: Week commencing Monday 4 September 2023
