To work as part of the team providing respite services to Children, Young People and Adults with complex healthcare needs, enabling their families to have a break from their carer responsibilities.

The post holder will provide support across Mill Lodge Adult Respite Unit, Squirrels Children Respite Unit, and Home-Based Respite:
by organising activities that are tailored to the needs of the individuals, and group activities to bring people together.

Delivering and arranging activities for individuals to provide a stimulating environment to meet their emotional, social, physical & intellectual needs.

Developing and maintaining a range of resources which short break staff can use to enhance the provision of short breaks for children, young people and adults.

Ensuring the individual needs of patients are met, providing opportunities for individuals to use their skills and enhance their quality of life, whilst maintaining their independence and privacy.

Displaying a caring, sensitive & approachable nature.

Displaying compassion, patience & empathy in all tasks, whilst being creative, organised & reliable in approach to work.

To contribute to the delivery of care packages for patients with learning disabilities and complex health needs for example, to enhance quality of life where possible.

To create organise and offer children, young people and adults who access NCH&C short breaks services a stimulation programme of internal and external activities

**Clinical**:
To manage, under indirect supervision, own workload within competencies of the post

To create, organise and offer children, young people and adults who access NCHC short break services a stimulating programme of activities offering internal & external activity sessions.

To co-ordinate & produce an activities programme for each service user, which will include both one to one activities as well as group sessions for those in residential care, ensuring that individuals likes and dislikes are considered. This should be circulated to all staff and families to know what is taking place.

To book external entertainment/activities and organise transport facilitating trips away from the unit.

To build and maintain good relationships with those children, young people and adults who access NCHC short break services, and their relatives.

Engage with children, young people, adults and their families using a variety of communication techniques as documented in the individuals care plan. This may include:
Using skills of empathy, persuasion, compassionate language and active listening

Identifying accessible information and any reasonable adjustments to support communication, including specific communication tools used and aids such as switches, eye gaze etc.

Being aware of their likes, dislikes, nutritional & cultural needs

To motivate, encourage & participate in activities with individuals.

Be confident in delegating the responsibility to undertake activities to the staff team ensuring that activities are taking place at regular intervals.

Ensure activities consider the child, young person or adults need for rest and relaxation and avoid over stimulation

To arrange photographs of events for parents, carers, families and within unit promotion and unit newsletters, ensuring consent has been obtained and recorded within the persons healthcare record..

Ensure consent to photography, external travel and activities has been obtained 6 monthly for children and young people. For adults within NCH&C care ensure families wishes are recorded at the annual respite review and staff act in accordance with these.

To act at all times in a professional manner to visitors, staff and children, young people and adults who access NCHC short break services.

To observe & promote patient choice, independence, dignity, privacy, fulfilment & other rights.

To help to create a warm and friendly atmosphere within the units, which allows & encourages individuals to develop and participate in the running of the unit to their fullest potential.

To review and record activities provided on the individuals Systm One record following the trust’s policy for record keeping.

To maintain good liaison within the team about all aspects of work, communicating fully and appropriately with all relevant persons.

Be aware of child/adult protection issues and procedures, always referring to Line manager or safeguarding team for advice.
