**Post Title: COMMUNITY RESEARCHER**

**Responsible to**: Research Lead, Brent Health Matters: Lead for Health Educators Contract &
Brent Carers Centre

**Responsible for**: Gathering and recording information that will help the improve understanding of how communities use community assets eg libraries, Brent Hubs and community grants to support their health and wellbeing.

**Post based at**: Willesden Medical Centre, 144-150 High Road, Willesden, NW10 2PT. The post holder will be expected to work off-site in the community.

**Salary**: £11.95 per hour - 16hrs weekly.

**Duration of**

**contract**: Initial contract for the period 7 months.

**Hours**:16 hours per week. This role may require flexibility to work some unsocial hours in evenings and weekends.

All appointments are made on the basis of satisfactory references and a satisfactory police check.

**Purpose of Role**:
You will support the development of the research project by helping us understand what will bring the most benefit to people living and working in the area. This role would suit someone who knows the area and has links to the community, is a good listener and enjoys meeting and talking to people. The work will be part-time over the next 9 months and, so we can talk to as many people as possible, will include attending some events and activities during evenings, weekends and school holidays.

**Main Duties**
- Your main job will be to interact with residents of Brent in order to understand how community assets are currently being used and how they can be improved to support residents’ wellbeing and reduce health inequalities.
- To encourage people of all ages to take part in the research process
- Gather information from residents, community groups and people working with the community
- Help the team develop new ways to gather information from the community

Examples of the activities you will be involved with:

- Walking around the neighbourhood, observing, engaging and recording information about local facilities, activities and how people use community spaces
- Working with the project team to find local people to interview and help with those interviews ⎯ Helping to set up local events and activities to gather information
- Organise community events to run focused groups

You will:

- Receive training to develop research skills (surveys, interviews, discussion groups etc.), recording information, collecting data, design questions and choose research methods as part of the project team
- Be fully supported and get great experience of working on a community project
- Be fully supervised by a Research lead within BHM
