**Temporary Passenger Assistant x10**
**Job Ref: W Sussex RQ659336**
**A DBS disclosure is listed as a requirement for this role; however the level of disclosure has not been specified by the client.** To support children with special needs on their way to and from school or college Key Responsibilities:
- Working from a known procedure, making minor decisions on a day to day basis e.g. deciding when enough time has been spent waiting at a designated stop for a late child.
- To remain alert during all journeys when passengers are on board. You will be required to concentrate to ensure that all the passengers are safe and cared for over the course of the journey, and during pick up and drop off times.
- You will require stamina, and some considerable physical effort, for example pushing a wheelchair or assisting children on and off the bus. You will also require a degree of physical mobility in order to reach for a passenger who is “running off” and needs to be steered towards their destination.
- You will spend your working time either travelling on a mini bus, a taxi or a car, or climbing in and out of the vehicle, securing passengers and their equipment safely, or sitting/standing at a school or centre, waiting for the passengers to arrive
**“Role Requirements” - to give yourself the maximum chance of success please try and ensure your CV addresses the following essential criteria**:
- Basic first aid training
- Knowledge of how to operate and secure items such as booster seats, wheel chairs and similar devices
- Previous experience working with, or caring for, children or adults, in some capacity, including voluntary work, paid work or through family commitments
- Very good communication skills, in order to communicate effectively with adults and children with special needs, their carers, family members and teachers; reporting any problems to parents, carers, teachers etc. and transferring information between the different venues (for example, school and home). This includes the ability to convey urgent messages by mobile telephone
- Able to understand and communicate in basic non-verbal signals - such as an adult unable to speak pointing to something they want. A basic understanding of Makaton in order to communicate with those passengers with learning difficulties
