Westminster, United Kingdom City of Westminster Council Full time

**About Us**:
**THE EXTRAORDINARY STORY OF SERENA’S VISION**

Growth, Planning and Housing in Westminster City Council is a world of extraordinary stories. Where innovative and open-minded people bring everything to the cause. Even expertise from surprising places.

Take Serena. She is an absolute force of nature at the heart of our Church Street regeneration. And she puts the residents first in everything. Serena’s vision is clear. Regeneration isn’t just about bricks and concrete. It’s about communities. It’s about the environment. It’s about the lives of people and how they feel about where they call home. Serena is their advocate, making sure residents’ voices aren’t just heard, but drive the changes we’re making. The future is safe in her hands.

Please view the extraordinary story of Serena’s Vision** **here**.

**The Role**:
As a Fire Door Inspector, you can make your own powerful contribution by improving building safety within Westminster and supporting our City for All vision. You’ll join a forward-thinking Council and make a real difference by keeping residents’ homes to the highest standards and improving Council services.

A fire door inspection is a review of the building’s fire doors which determines if they are fit for purpose and compliant with fire safety standards. In the event of a fire, a building’s passive fire protection system plays a vital role in reducing the rate at which fire and smoke spread throughout the building.

You will be responsible for inspecting fire-rated doors to ensure they are functioning correctly and in compliance with relevant codes and regulations. Working independently and as part of a team, you’ll test, inspect and evaluate fire doors for proper installation, maintenance and repair, provide detailed reports of your findings, and recommend appropriate corrective actions. You’ll conduct thorough inspections, test for functionality such as the ability to seal, assess door frames and other components, report issues, and work with building owners to develop corrective action plans.

This is a great opportunity to set and lead by example, as you manage an exciting portfolio of 21,000 properties. It’s a fully-funded 5-year capital programme with new IT being introduced to assist in managing stock. You can expect to work on projects such as home technology, dementia-friendly properties and home adaptations.

Westminster is a thriving and dynamic place to work. You’ll join an excellent, diverse and inclusive team and get plenty of opportunities to learn and develop. And, because we give you full training, you don’t need previous experience.

Please refer to the **Job Description** for more information.

**About You**:
We’re looking for someone with experience in a similar, customer-focused role and with an eye for detail. Ideally, you’ll have experience surveying fire doors and frames, know how to identify points for correction on a fire door, and have experience providing technical advice to a team. You’ll also be confident in managing appointments, writing advisory actions, and speaking with or reporting back to clients and tenants.

You’ll be a practical person with the manual dexterity, coordination and stamina required to carry out this type of work, which you’ll be able to do unsupervised, with professionalism, positivity and proactivity. You’ll also be computer literate, can stick to your diary, and can work with high attention to detail.

Ideally, you’ll have a recognised Fire Door Inspection qualification (FDIS, BRE, DipFD etc.) and those who do will command a higher salary. Previous experience in fire-stopping or fire risk assessments is a bonus, but we can offer training if needed.

**What We Offer**:
Westminster is an amazing place. We are home to more than 200,000 residents from all backgrounds, over 50,000 vibrant and vital businesses and three-quarters-of-a-million people work in Westminster. Westminster City Council’s strategy is to work towards a Fairer Westminster. A Fairer Westminster is one in which our communities are at the heart of our decision-making and help to determine the city’s future. By working directly with our communities and other partners, we can build a more inclusive city that celebrates our diverse communities, and where residents, workers and visitors from all backgrounds will feel welcome and safe.

As a forward-thinking Council we appreciate that people work in different ways, therefore our staff benefit from working a range of flexible working patterns as well as Agile working.
