- Job Title: Special Support Assistant

- The Local Governing Committee is seeking to appoint a Special Support Assistant to work with specific children who have additional needs.
- We are seeking an individual to join our team who:
is caring and understanding of children’s needs.
- has high expectations of children’s behaviour and attainment.
- is very well organised & efficient.
- has experience of directly working with children with SEND including Autistic Spectrum.
- is committed to helping children progress and gain independence.
- who can demonstrate a good standard of English and Maths,
enjoys working with children, flexible, adaptable and able to work successfully in a team.
- The job will involve working closely with and supporting children with EHCPs, helping them to succeed within a classroom setting.
- Experience of the following skills or programmes are desirable:
understanding of how to de-escalate children when they are dysregulated
knowledge of using Picture Exchange Communication and experience of delivering a Speech and Language programme, and how to embed these targets in the interactions and activities they lead with him.
social skill interventions, social stories/comic strip conversations
- Use of TEACHH or ‘now-next’ type approaches to encourage engagement.

Ability to deliver an individualised multi-sensory curriculum in small steps with daily opportunities for overlearning, with flexibility, and opportunities to share and celebrate success.
- The school has been praised in its Ofsted report for the care and attention it provides for children with additional needs so that they can take part in the full range of learning.
