This is an exceptional opportunity to join a small team as a Principal Planning Policy Officer delivering Local Plans and other related projects across the Forest of Dean District. This permanent role offers flexibility from working at one of our offices across Gloucestershire (Coleford/Cirencester), West Oxfordshire (Witney) and home working allowing you that extra freedom and work life balance.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced planner policy officer who is looking to take the next step in their career and be a valued member of the team to lead in preparing, implementing and updating plans, policies and supporting material, survey and evidence gathering for the Forest of Dean District.

The duties will include contributing to the full range of plan making, providing supporting information and helping to implement important schemes and some management of the plan making process and other members of the team.

You will be a focal point of the Planning Policy function and possess the skills to confidently secure the best outcomes on the variety of complex projects you will be working on. You will be able to engage with a range of individuals, including Elected Members, industry experts and internal stakeholders on planning policy matters. As a result, the role will require someone who has a proven track record of successful stakeholder management and engagement.

You will need to possess a sound working knowledge of planning and government policy and guidance, good written and oral communication skills to have the ability to formalise in developing strategies effectively. You will also need to be a good team player and able to lead work on one’s own initiative.

**You will need**
- A relevant professional qualification in planning or an allied discipline, and membership of an appropriate professional body eg RTPI.
- Experience in plan making/ planning policy and implementation at a senior level and at least five years relevant post-qualification in a planning policy and/or a related discipline e.g. development management.
- Experience in developing strategies and writing clear, concise reports.
- Experience of working closely with developers/landowners and others in relation to the delivery of land use allocations and other policies and proposals.
- Presenting to and working with elected Members.
- Working with partner local authorities and other organisations on planning matters.
