**Job Purpose**

To undertake direct work with families of students on roll at the school, those who have been recently referred, or those who are returning to their commissioning school/alternative education destination.

The Family Liaison Support Officer will work with a range of vulnerable pupils, but give priority to those who need the most help, especially those experiencing multiple disadvantages including:

- Cared for or formerly cared for students
- Children who have social care involvement - CIN, CP or who are receiving Early Help Services (EHAT)
- Children with emotional, medical or special needs and disabilities
- Challenging behaviour which is putting their placement at the Beacon of Light School at risk of closure
- Children with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP)

The Family Liaison Support Officer will be predominantly education / school based, but will have a wider remit including working with families and the local community by encouraging the engagement in the Early Help Assessment process (EHAT).

**Safeguarding Responsibilities**
- Demonstrate a commitment to keeping students and young people safe
- Report any disclosure made to the appropriate person
- Report any safeguarding concerns in the workplace to the appropriate person Maintain an awareness of the Trust policies in relation to safeguarding

**Key Responsibilities**
- To provide direct support for parents/carers of students with SEND difficulties in order to support the work undertaken in school with direction from the SENDCo
- Establish positive relationships with students and their families, developing and enhancing parental engagement with the school and other agencies.
- To support the transition of students to The Beacon of Light School by completing observations within the commissioning school, gathering student and parent voice to ensure the appropriate support and provision is provided with The Beacon of Light School. This may include developing personalised phased transition and the development of individual transition plans this will be coordinated as part of the induction process and in collaboration with the Deputy Principals
- To provide support to families and students as they make the transition to The Beacon of Light School from the commissioning school, including supporting the induction process when necessary.
- To provide support to families and students as they make the transition from The Beacon of Light School back to either their commissioning school or their next educational destination to ensure a positive re-integration in partnership with the Deputy Principal
- Work with families to develop parenting skills and promote student’s wellbeing, emotional and social development such as TripleP, or sign posting parents to the appropriate services including providing well being checks and family support during school holidays
- To model alongside parents/carers activities designed to develop pupil’s problem-solving, listening, social skills and Preparation for Adulthood criteria
- To discuss with parents/carers, within the home context, support strategies designed to encourage and develop appropriate behaviour in variety of setting
- To promote and facilitate pupils’ attendance and punctuality to school, including completing welfare checks as necessary in partnership with Attendance Support and the Deputy Principal
- Identify with parents reasons for their student’s non-attendance. Ascertain the probable causes of the absences and implement strategies / action plans to resolve the situation - working closely with the Attendance Support Co-Ordinator, the Deputy Principal the child and the child’s family.
- To work as part of an integrated team and contribute to the objectives of the School and the Local Authority in respect of ensuring improved outcomes for families and children and young people; including improved attendance.
- As part of this team, use professional skills and knowledge to develop effective relationships with parents, families, children and young people and other partners.
- To undertake direct planning, carry a particular caseload and deliver agreed action plans with children and young people and their families in the family home and in other settings as required by the role.
- Participate in and contribute to the team around the family via:

- attendance and contribution to Family Support Meetings, conferences and other meetings, to promote the voice of the family and act as an advocate for the student with administrative support
- undertake work with families and report on progress and issues to such meetings, and undertake regular reviews of such work;
- work with other colleagues within the School, Local Authority and from external agencies
- to plan and deliver appropriate intervention for families;
- maintain effective core records in respect of individual caseloads
