**The Role**:
Supervision and construction assurance including H&S compliance of highway major maintenance and minor improvement schemes being delivered by Scheme Delivery Framework (SDF), Category Management (CAT MAN), Maintenance & Response (M&R) and third party contractors across the Midlands.
The role will be based at a National Highways office or depot in Birmingham, Nottingham, Kettering, Telford, Stafford, Worcester or Warwick.

Additional and/or unsociable working hours including night working will be required for which there will be paid overtime and/or a nightwork uplift.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Supervision and inspection of works in accordance with contractual terms,
- Assuring the completion of planned works to the required standard including compliance with the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) and Manual of Contract Documents for Highways Works (MCHW),
- Verifying contractors comply with HSE Legislation including the CDM Regulations,
- Verifying temporary traffic management is installed in accordance with the approved layouts,
- Escalating on-site issues that need resolving to the Construction Assurance Manager,
- Providing Construction Assurance Managers with regular and timely feedback on scheme construction progress, risks and design related issues,
- Monitoring supply chain partners to ensure works are proceeding in accordance with the accepted programme,
- Liaising with Construction Assurance Managers and Commercial & Procurement staff including providing information on Early Warnings and Compensation Events,
- Identifying, in consultation with Construction Assurance Managers and contractors, improvements which eliminate or reduce construction related risks,
- Proactively identify opportunities for efficiencies during the construction of schemes,
- Identify and manage the rectification of defects.
- Experience of fulfilling the role of the NEC Supervisor,
- Highways and structures construction and maintenance experience,
- Knowledge and experience of site-based processes and procedures for health, safety, environmental and quality management.
- Good understanding of the Specification for Highway Works, Chapter 8 and CDM Regulations,
- Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) or Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS),
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, practices and policies for health, safety and wellbeing in construction,
- Ability to execute tasks independently and work collaboratively within a team,
- Good communication and interpersonal skills,
- Strong customer focus,
- Drive, commitment, adaptability and flexibility with a focus on delivery to time, quality and budget,
- Computer literate with knowledge of MS Office Excel, Word, Project and Outlook.
