Housing Policy

Bristol, United Kingdom Bristol City Council Full time

**Full Time, Permanent**

**Policy and practices that will tangibly improve social housing standards in Bristol.**

Wherever you’ve worked in policy - across local government, housing, environment or elsewhere in the public sector - This is a fantastic opportunity to join an innovative team focused on improving standards in council housing.

Bristol owns and manages over 27,000 flats and houses in all wards across the city. As you might expect, you will lead on the development of policies, practice and initiatives that support delivery and improvement of our Housing and Landlord Services. You’ll be joining the Business Development service, whose aim is to ensure we have effective policies that reflect resident priorities and BCC ambitions as well as compliance with new regulations and housing standards.

**What will I be doing?**

Ultimately, this role is about improving service delivery and outcomes for over 33,000 residents across the city. You’ll first gain a deep understanding of residents’ and stakeholders’ needs and housing legislation, before scoping, developing and implementing improvements.

As our in-house expert, we’ll ask you to:

- Undertake research including proactively seeking out national best practice to help drive our service offer forward and improve the lives of those living in our homes.
- Lead on the development and review of housing management policies and procedures for the authority, ensuring that they are fit for purpose, accurately reflect legislation, council priorities and services provision.
- Communicate and Consult with a variety of audiences including elected members, residents and internal and external stakeholders, to gather their views on policies, and to include them in the completion of service improvement work.
- Provide advice and guidance on the implementation and interpretation of legislation, regulation, policy and procedures; providing support to resolve problem areas and/or information and training for others.

There will also be the opportunity to continuously improve our policy and practice toolkit.

**What do I need to have?**

Aside from a relevant degree, it’s vital that you’re experienced in public sector policy development and improvement. Time spent developing IT systems or housing business plans would also be useful. However, it’s your policy and/or project management background that will set you apart, because as well as understanding the key issues and operational frameworks - you’ll need to influence a range of stakeholders and make sure our policies and procedures have maximum impact.

**Why Bristol Council?
As an employer, we go the extra mile for you with a work environment that’s fast-moving and supportive - a place where you can use your skills and develop new ones. There’s also flexible working and flexitime to look forward to, the Local Government Pension scheme, and a generous annual leave allowance.

But ultimately, you’ll join for the chance to make Bristol a better place and contribute to its future by enhancing everyday life for our residents.

**How do I apply?**

**For further information, please refer to the Job Description and Person Specification or alternatively, please contact Lesha Wilson**
- At Bristol City Council, we value having a workforce as diverse as the city we serve. We therefore welcome, develop and promote people from all sections of the community. Appointments will be made on merit._
