University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust
Royal Alexandra Hospital for Sick Children, Brighton
1 x CLINICAL FELLOW - (ST1-3)
- 6 month contract
We are looking to recruit one enthusiastic SHO level doctor to work in our general paediatric, paediatric critical care and children’s emergency departments at the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital (RACH) in Brighton. The post-holders will not be expected to provide cover to the neonatal unit, which is staffed separately. The successful applicants will contribute to the SHO rota, working the same shift pattern as deanery trainees with the same educational opportunities.
Brighton is a wonderful place to live and work. Close to the South Downs and just by the beach, it has a vibrant night-life and wonderful shopping and eating. The Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital is part of the Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust and is located on the Brighton campus alongside the Royal Sussex County Hospital. We have the region’s only stand-alone children’s emergency department, and the paediatric service provides specialist care to children across the region. With our partner medical school, the Brighton and Sussex Medical School, we provide an active teaching and clinical support environment.
This role will be located within the general paediatric wards.
The post holder accepts that they will also perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate consultant, in consultation, where practicable, with their colleagues, both senior and junior. While it has been agreed between the professions that they will perform such duties, the Secretary of State stresses that additional commitments arising under this sub-section are exceptions and you should not be required to undertake work of this kind for prolonged periods or on a regular basis.
The clinical duties of the post include the day-to-day care of the patients who are seen in the Children’s Emergency Department and inpatient medical wards, Critical Care Unit and Day Case Unit
You will work a combination of day shifts, long days, night shifts and weekends as part of a European Working Time Directive compliant rota of approximately 13 full-time equivalent people.
