**EMPLOYER’S PERSONAL STATEMENT**

I grew up in Birmingham and in 1988 I came to Nottingham Trent University to do my Higher National Diploma in Computer Studies. This included a year’s work placement at Nottinghamshire County Council, which lead to a permanent job and me settling in Nottingham. I worked there in full time employment for 14 years as a computer analyst / programmer, however, I had to retire from full-time paid work in 2005 as it became too much to physically manage on top of my disability.

I have Cerebral Palsy, which basically means that I use a powered wheelchair to get around, have poor coordination of all my limbs, and a speech impairment. I am now 55 years of age. I am very independent, I have my own bungalow, but I need some assistance with everyday tasks.

I enjoy going to the cinema and theatre. I like films that make you think or show the ironies in life. I keep tropical fish and find them relaxing to watch. I like to travel to experience different places, both locally and internationally, when I can. I have been to Florida, the Caribbean, Spain, Portugal, Turkey, Holland, and many of the Greek islands. I have my own specially adapted van to get around, but I must rely upon Personal Assistants and friends to drive for me. I am a member of the National Trust and I enjoy visiting stately homes and country parks. I am an active member of a local church, and my Christian faith is very important to me.

I try to keep busy through voluntary work. I held the positions of Management Committee Member and Treasurer for over 20 years at Nottingham Independent Venture (NIV), a CQC Registered Domiciliary Care Agency. NIV offered 24-hour care and support to disabled people living within their own homes. I gained a lot of experience in business and personnel management through my involvement with NIV. I was a key member of this organisation with responsibilities for financial management, policy making, recruitment and selection, and the general smooth running of the organisation. I was also a Company Director of Just Services Ltd: working for justice in health and social welfare
