ROLE PURPOSE:
The Portfolio Specialist position plays an important role as a representative of the Impax Listed Equities team in front of clients, prospects, and their advisors. This is an opportunity to leverage knowledge on stocks, environment themes and the investment process to help clients & prospects understand what Impax offers and how investments have performed. As a member of the Client Service & Business Development team, based in London, the Portfolio Specialist is integrally involved in the sales and client service process across the EMEA region. This role is particularly focused on European clients and distribution partners.

ROLE DIMENSIONS

This person will be based out of London but expected to travel, predominately in continental Europe.

They will be part of the Portfolio Specialist team, which is currently two people. This team sits within Client Service and Business Development department.

A key element of the the role is to support Impax’s distribution partners, particularly within continental Europe, as well as clients who have a direct relationship with Impax.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Portfolio Specialist is responsible for serving as an experienced and able proxy for members of the Listed Equity (LE) investment team, both internally and externally. In this capacity, the Portfolio Specialist will:

- Represent the LE portfolio managers at client and prospect meetings, principally around the Environmental Market strategies, imparting information on strategy, positioning, and performance.
- Represent Impax at external conferences and events hosted by our clients who distribute funds sub-advised by Impax AM. This role will primarily support BNP Paribas and their European distribution teams.
- Represent Impax at relevant industry conferences.
- Deliver quarterly investment strategy reporting as well as ad hoc responses to clients and prospects’ questions as requested by the Impax sales and client service teams. This is expected to be in English but also possibly French.
- Contribute to the response to RFIs/RFPs at the request of the sales and client service teams.
- Contribute to the development of investment related marketing and communications materials as requested by the marketing team.

To fulfil this role, the Portfolio Specialist is expected to develop and maintain a strong understanding of the LE investment objectives, process, portfolio constituents, risk characteristics, fund governance documents and detail on individual stocks by:

- Participating as an active observer in Portfolio Construction Meetings for all covered LE strategies.
- Participating as an active observer in weekly Investment Committee meetings.
- Participating within CSBD working groups developing sales messaging for marketing and communications materials.
- Developing flexibility in presentation style across external marketing channels.
- Developing a collaborative working relationship across internal business lines.
- Maintain a working knowledge of relevant fund governing documents.
- Ensure that expenses are kept within the agreed budget over the financial year.
- Understand and always comply with the requirements of Impax’s regulatory supervisory bodies including the FCA.
- Other duties as assigned.

KEY DELIVERABLES
- Learn, understand and be able to present externally the Impax Environmental Market strategies. This will involve building knowledge on stocks and relevant enviromental and sustainability themes. This will be assessed by an internal “driving test” before being signed off for external client meetings.
- Excellent client service to BNP, especially for their French-speaking staff and clients. This will be evidenced by feedback from BNP Client Relationship Managers.
- Helping to support the asset gathering targets for CSBD in Europe.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE:
**Essential**:

- Excellent written skills in French and English when covering financial markets and writing investment summaries.
- Demonstrated personal interest in sustainable development and specifically the financing of investment opportunities related to environmental solutions.
- A minimum of five years of relevant experience in the asset management industry with specific expertise in areas such as energy efficiency, renewables, water, food, and/or waste/recycling.
- Ability to work productively and independently to achieve assigned tasks with a minimum amount of direct supervision.
- Ability to manage multiple high priority projects and work effectively both as an individual and as part of a team.
- This position requires frequent travel within the EMEA region. A fluent French speaker is required.

**Desirable**:

- European language skills (oral) at business level in addition to French.
