We are currently seeking a highly motivated, proactive colleague to lead the Health and Safety element of NHS Ayrshire and Arran’s Occupational Health and Safety agenda, providing strategic and directorate level input to improvement planning and the development and delivery of the organisation’s strategic Health, Safety and Wellbeing Plan.

You will lead the development, direction and delivery of support to all sectors of the organisation; manages and provides professional leadership and manages the resources of NHS Ayrshire and Arran’s Health and Safety and Moving and Handling Teams; and deputises for the Assistant Director of Occupational Health, Safety and Risk Management on all aspects of the Occupational Health and Safety function.

You must be confident in working autonomously to achieve agreed objectives that ensure the Occupational Health and Safety framework is met. Extensive and comprehensive knowledge of management factors relating to successful health and safety performance is required, along with substantive experience of implementation and monitoring of strategy and related activity in a complex organisation, ideally within the health and care sector.

You should hold a Masters degree or equivalent knowledge in Occupational Health, Safety or Risk Management; as well as Chartered Membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health, and a recognised qualification in Ergonomics and Human Factors, or evidence of experiential learning.

A car owner/driver is essential, as the role requires travel to areas across the Board which provides integrated health and social care services within a number of hospital and healthcare settings within the geographical boundaries of Ayrshire and the islands of Arran and Cumbrae.
