A job opportunity has arisen for a Principal Genetic Counsellor at Nottingham Regional Clinical Genetics service. Applicants must hold professional registration (GCRB or HCPC).

Main duties of the job
- To be the nominated Principal Genetic Counsellor with special responsibility for cancer
- To take a lead in developing the non-medical management /co-ordination of familial cancer services in partnership with consultant clinical geneticists
- To support the Lead GC in managerial responsibilities, including provision of line management
- To act as an advisor / mentor to the less experienced members of the team and take responsibility for the implementation of training programmes and supervision of trainee and student genetic counsellors with respect to cancer
- To contribute to the overall planning and specialist educational programmes and act as a significant educational and advisory resource to the wider health care community
- To contribute to the provision of a high quality genetic counselling service at regional specialist level for a defined geographic catchment area
- To deliver Genetic counselling care packages to families with complex needs, both in partnership with colleagues or as part of a care management pathway with other health care teams
- To help individuals and families understand and deal with genetic conditions in line with AGNC guidance.

Person specification

Training and Qualifications

Essential criteria
- MSc in Genetic Counselling or equivalent experience
- GCRB/HCPC Registration

Desirable criteria
- PhD in a relevant field (e.g. genetics, healthcare, social sciences)
- Management training / qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
- Substantial experience in genetic counselling
- Demonstrates clinical expertise within cancer genetics
- Understanding of current issues related to providing genomics services
- Experience of training and mentoring trainee/newly qualified GCs

Desirable criteria
- Recruitment and selection of staff
- Experience of staff management
- GCRB sign-off mentor experience
- Understanding of audit and research methodologies

Communication skills

Essential criteria
- Excellent verbal and written communication and listening skills

**Salary**: The quoted salary will be on a pro rata basis for part time workers.
