Lancashire Teaching hospitals is passionate about providing opportunities for employment to a range of people from diverse backgrounds. As one of the largest employers in Lancashire there is a need to look at recruitment strategies, training pathways and programmes that meet with the equality & diversity agenda as well as engaging with the community.
You will have an awareness of the local, regional and national widening participation agenda and respond by providing new ideas for WP activity and provide opportunities for employment and development of employability skills for those people who may be disadvantaged through a variety of reasons. This will be done by writing new programmes, delivering programmes and measuring their impact through destination tracking reports.
This Widening Participation Tutor role will be responsible for supporting t-level students whilst on placement at LTH. This post holder will also coordinate the delivery of our work familiarisation programme working with students with additional learning needs and disabilities.
The role also supports the wider team to implement work experience placements across all departments within the organisation and attend external careers events and activities.
This role forms part of a team where everyone works together to provide activities and opportunities that promote the NHS as a career choice and support processes that provide equal opportunities for our community to access employment.

- Coordinate and promote widening participation within the Trust
- Identify potential developments to existing programmes and develop new programmes meeting the WP agenda
- Tutor taught sessions supporting students to learn about the Trust and careers within it.
- Engage on taught sessions with a variety of students from a diverse background
- Deliver presentations on WP activities to promote the WP agenda to a wide range of people and organisations
- Build and maintain key relations with training providers and Trust managers.
- Undertake work placement audits to assess the quality of learning environments against quality assurance standards.
- Outline any areas for improvement and inform WP manager, together produce action plans
- Support placement areas to achieve the actions to enhance the student learning experience.
- To produce timetabled activities providing structured programmes for WP students appropriate to their ability
- Help promote and preserve quality learning opportunities
- To support work experience applicants into available opportunities
- With support from WP manager, explore and source external funding streams for widening participation activities.
- Share Information with appropriate key staff
- Undertake training as required for the development of the post
- Undergo annual appraisal and be responsible for maintaining a PDP and participating in the annual review process
- To maintain a professional attitude when representing the Trust
- Manage own workload under the guidance of WP manager, work independently deferring to manager when deemed necessary
