Factory International has large flexible conjoined performance spaces that can be configured in a number of ways including a 64m long, 33m wide warehouse space where the largest ever Yayoi Kusama exhibition will be staged or a 1600 seat auditorium with a 22m wide, 11m high proscenium arch leading to a 33m deep stage, and everything in between. Our artists stretch the ambition further reaching into every part of the building and the surrounding grounds. Our expert technical teams deliver the physical elements of all shows, artworks and events, working closely with the Programming and Producing teams to realise innovative ideas and making sure they are created in a safe, sustainable and exciting way.

We are looking for expertise from all artforms; visual and performing arts, live music, theatre, exhibitions, corporate events and beyond. The Deputy Heads of Department will collectively lead a diverse range of core staff drawn from a wide range of backgrounds and experience - from exhibition technicians and carpenters to lighting and VR technicians to riggers and sound engineers. Dealing with complex logistics, the team will make sure that all of our spaces, events and shows are delivered to an exceptional standard and accessible to everyone. Responsibilities for the Deputy Head of Exhibition Installation are;
- Support the Head of Department in the deployment and operation of all aspects of Factory International’s equipment within the Scenic & Gallery Installations team, with particular emphasis on gallery operations and exhibition management. To support the Head of Department with staffing levels and rota management, ensuring adequate staffing levels for all projects. To support the Scenic team members as required to ensure projects are completed to the highest standard
- To participate in the organisation and supervision of installing and removing exhibitions/displays and overseeing their running periods. Planning appropriate staffing levels and apportioning equipment for the department, and ensuring that this is carried out in accordance with current Health & Safety legislation and Environmental Good Practice
- To supervise and lead discipline specific teams within the planning, creation and delivery of artworks, exhibitions and events. To plan and supervise format changeovers within each of the venue spaces including handling, installation and care of a variety of complex artworks and exhibition designs across multiple spaces. Maintenance and logging incidents and issues relating to exhibits/exhibitions during the show runs
- To coordinate truck/vehicle movements on site and operate the venue truck lift system in accordance with outlined procedures
- Attending production meetings, rehearsals and technical rehearsals as required. Liaising with visiting technical departments and teams, ensuring their requirements are met and they are compliant with Factory International policies. Working with team members to develop and promote production related income streams and to maximise return on the commercial contract
- Cover the position of Technical Duty Manager on a rota basis and manage other technical departments in the absence of the relevant manager. On occasion, schedule team members to cover the position of technical stage manager. To support the rigging department, alongside other team members, as required
- In conjunction with other technical team members, plan and deliver an effective programme of maintenance (inc. Planned Preventative Maintenance), housekeeping, stock control and testing for all appliances and relevant equipment in the building
- In conjunction with the Head of Department, Technical Manager and Director of Production & Building Operations, plan and carry out the recruitment, development and training of technical staff, ensuring the needs of the department are met. To promote good working practice within the department and provide adequate supervision of permanent and casual staff

The person specification for the Deputy Head of Exhibition Installation include;
ESSENTIAL
- Extensive practical knowledge and proven experience working across various mediums on installations and exhibitions, preferably in a producing environment
- Experience of handling and packing delicate/specialist objects, or exhibition/installation collection pieces
- Proven ability to deliver projects to a high standard of finish with excellent attention to detail
- Working knowledge of exhibition/installation technical management and rigging practices
