**Job summary**:
Scotland has a reputation for a high quality water environment, and you will be a key player in enhancing that reputation. Based within the Drinking Water Quality Team, supporting the Drinking Water Quality Regulator for Scotland. This post provides an excellent opportunity to work with a range of water industry stakeholders to protect and further improve the quality of Scotland’s drinking water quality.

The Drinking Water Quality Regulator for Scotland is the independent regulator of drinking water quality, regulating Scottish Water and having oversight of local authorities with regard to their drinking water quality remit.

The team is responsible for independently assuring that Scotland's drinking water continues to be of the highest standard. As a Drinking Water Specialist, you be responsible for audit and inspection of a wide range of drinking water assets, investigating water quality incidents, preparation of reports, progressing enforcement action in line with the Regulator’s enforcement policy and liaising with consumers, stakeholders and the Scottish Government to provide expert technical advice on drinking water matters.

Technical advice and guidance is provided to local authorities on private water supplies to support them in their regulatory function. The team are responsible for ensuring the water sector complies with the requirements of the NIS Regulations.

An essential part of this role is site visits, involving extensive travel throughout Scotland and, occasionally, elsewhere. A driving licence is therefore mandatory as many locations are beyond public transport and you will be expected to drive to these locations.

**Job description**:

- Lead technical inspections of Scottish Water assets and activities, engaging with all levels of the organisation, recommending improvements and reporting on findings;
- Co-ordinate DWQR’s scrutiny role in cyber and physical security
- Lead liaison and supervision of Local Authorities in their duties concerning private water supplies
- Classify and investigate water quality incidents, reporting findings and initiating and managing enforcement action where appropriate;
- Provide expert specialist advice to assist with policy development and drinking water research, delivering technical leadership on key strategies;
- Assist with the management of the public profile of the DWQR, including website, correspondence and media relations

**Person specification**:

- Extensive current, practical experience in the water industry or it’s supply chain
- Experience of investigating and solving complex technical problems, reporting on them and recommending viable solutions
- Well-developed IT capabilities, including the collection, organisation and presentation of data to support decision making
- Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to work as part of a team and experience of engaging with a wide range of external stakeholders
