**Safeguarding and Attendance Officer**

Full time and permanent role - term time only + 5 inset days

We are seeking to appoint a full time Safeguarding and Attendance Officer who can support the Designated Safeguarding Lead in the management of child protection referrals to ensure all children are kept safe. We would expect this person to identify and investigate the circumstances behind absence and use a pro-active, collaborative approach to improve attendance across the school.

**The role will require the person in post to**:

- To act as Deputy Safeguarding Lead.
- To attend quarterly Child Protection forums and other Child Protection training courses and to disseminate relevant information to staff following and ensure best practice throughout the school.
- To assist in delivering suitable safeguarding training and workshops to staff and students.
- To respond to Child Protection concerns raised by staff, completing referrals to social care where appropriate.
- To manage child protection caseload, completing and submitting relevant paper work in preparation for meetings and reviews.
- To provide support to children and families throughout the Child Protection process
- To acquire and maintain a working knowledge of the statutory framework relating to school absence.
- To oversee and follow up whole school behaviour, attendance and wellbeing in the school.
- To be a principal point of contact for carers in relation to student attendance, welfare, behaviour, attendance and well-being.
- To be responsible for the integrity of a range of school records and data relating to student absence, ensuring systems are accurate and fit for purpose.
- To provide data as required and as requested, assisting with the interpretation of such data.
- To monitor and track attendance data and use this to identify groups of vulnerable young people and provide monitoring and evaluation in these areas.
- In cases of poor attendance, liaise with appropriate professionals to establish additional support and implement as appropriate.
- To monitor and evaluate attendance and punctuality data so as the inform policies and initiatives to improve the attendance of students.
- To maintain regular contact and establish constructive relationships with families/carers of students in need of attendance support, to keep them informed of the students’ needs and progress and to encourage positive family support and involvement.
- The post holder will need to attend multi agency meetings where they may need to contribute verbally or produce written reports.
- To ensure staff are fully conversant with the procedures and rules necessary for the optimum functioning of the attendance systems and associated support programmes, and that staff are correctly implementing policies.
- To evaluate the success of support initiatives with regard to school attendance problems and to produce evaluative and informative reports on student attendance on a regular basis.
- To have a knowledge and appreciation of the range of activities, course, opportunities, organisations and individuals that could be drawn upon to provide extra support for students and foster relationships which will support access to these.
- Where students are absent due to illness, mental health or long term health issues, to assist with meeting parents to assess the needs and contribute to and oversee the writing of a comprehensive report in order to action targets set.
