This leadership role is in the department’s Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT) directorate. Here, we help people to understand what trade policy enables them to do and help them to do it using digital products and services.

**Job description**

As a Content Design Lead, you really do get the chance to lead, setting content strategy and directing the work of other content designers. You make sure content design forms part of service design and digital transformation.You’ll directly line manage people, lead on projects, and you’ll support the Head of Content, running a team of about 25 Content Designers.

You’ll collaborate with colleagues in service design, interaction design, data, monitoring and evaluation, user research, operations, policy, events, and marketing. You are keen to explore how new technologies can help us provide content more effectively and efficiently.

This is a strategic and systems-thinking role. Day-to-day you’ll be responsible for:

- taking a strategic view on how Content Design can support Department for International Trade’s campaigns
- ensuring that policies for “microsites” and “translations” are included by defining

and designing Content Design’s support to “microsites”
- collaborating and, problem-solving with Department for International Trade colleagues, especially in marketing,

strategic communications, events, and policy, as well as GDS where necessary
- embedding new ways of working across multiple disciplines and directorates
- leading on content strategy on how to qualify and quantify content lifecycle support
- leading for content design on products and projects - working to the agile principles

of testing, iterating, re-scoping, and re-purposing - to help DDaT meet user and
business needs to support the department’s outcome delivery plan

You’ll be:

- responsible for the timely delivery and quality of content and strategy across products
- creating content to meet user and business needs to support the department’s outcome delivery plan
- ensuring all content is user-focused, accurate, optimised appropriately (for search, for example), and meets relevant design standards
- working with colleagues to understand user behaviours and data patterns to improve how services perform
- taking an overall perspective on business issues, wider implications, and long-term impact, and how content can help solve challenges
- managing and mentoring Content Designers, and promoting an environment and culture that ensures capability and capacity is built to meet the needs of the organisation
- influencing and interacting with senior stakeholders and colleagues
- demonstrating role-model Civil Service behaviours

**Person specification**

You’ll have demonstrable skills and experience of:

- grasping large amounts of complex information in a big organisation
- a strong grasp of content design’s role in relationship to promotional content (content marketing); structured content (information operations) and service design content (UX-writing)
- an ability to get to the heart of an issue clearly, demonstrating design-thinking
- working in a leadership role - developing and managing people - to ensure the delivery of content that solves business challenges and meet user needs
- working collaboratively in a fast-paced, cross-discipline digital agile teams on digital content and services
- managing commercial contracts and ensuring budget is spent according to controls
- an understanding of measurement, metrics and data needed to evaluate content’s effectiveness
- effective communication and presentation skills - you can persuade, negotiate, influence, network with stakeholders or engage them in problem-solving exercises
